Not many great players play defense, especially if they always have to carry the team. This is kind of a known fact in the NBA. Why would someone waste energy playing defense when they have to save their energy for offense?
Anyway, Melo was always talented. Sadly, Iverson held him back (I am an Iverson fan but I finally came to the realization he does more harm than good, just look at the Pistons now) and most people seem to forget that before Melo slapped that dude from the Knicks a few years ago and got suspended, he led the league in scoring and had his Nuggets sitting in first place.
