Hey, Microsoft, why not a keyboard and mouse instead of Kinect?
It would open your console up to a whole new world of games. Games that would be exclusive to your console! Entire genres even. Real time strategy! MMO! You want to become a dominant force in the living room? A keyboard & mouse + 12 milion live subscribers + Internet Explorer = total domination of the living room via the internet. You would save BILLIONS and make even more BILLIONS. The Kinect = 1 purchase of $150 only 1 time. Congrats, you've killed your accessory market, one of the most lucrative aspects of console gaming (46,000 Wiimotes a day anyone?). Keyboard + mouse = accessories out the wazoo. And the best part: you wouldn't have to spend any money creating these devices, they already exist! All you'd have to do is write a few lines of code. Other companies would flock to your console. You think your ESPN deal is snazzy? It doesn't even allow us to watch FOOTBALL the most popular sport in America! Consider the following: Netflix would no longer have to employ hundreds of people to ensure that their Xbox Live version of their site doesn't conflict with their www version. Same for facebook. Makes you wonder about Hulu. YouTube. Any/all internet news outlets.
And lets not talk about the mod communities you would create. Playstation thinks they've got it going on with games like LittleBig Planet. How about opening up consoles to the world of user created mods. Fallout3, booyah. Forge, stand aside. And the best part, the infrastructure is already in place.
But, instead of the above, you chose to give us a weird little black camera that tracks motion, so we can lean side to side to play a car racing game. Great for my obliques, but not very intuitive.
What do you think?
