I don't know if anyone has noticed yet, but Activision blows. whoisryanmack
Call of Duty 3 is an Activision title and it was a pretty fun game to play. I agree spiderman was not ready to be shipped, but the company at self has done some pretty good things.
I'd love to play games just by thinking about it. I'm not lazy or anything just think that would be one of the steps to virtual reality.Metroid_Time
It most certainly is the biggest hurdle in attaining true virtual reality. The problem is that you can't move your eyes to look around and it makes the virtual reality feel unatural. Your eyes and your controller you're using to control the virtual reality do two separate things and this makes for a bad gaming experience. If you could use your thoughts to control the camera, your brain could be manipulated to think that the eyes are looking around when in reality they are just staring straight at the screen. I know this theory is very difficult to explain, but the point is that if everything onscreen is being controlled by thought, the immersion into the virtual world would be greatly increased.
Heres an interesting article I read on CNN.com.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/fun.games/04/30/mind.reading.toys.ap/index.html
For those to Casual or Noobish to read the article, heres the gist of it:
A technology has been developed that allows a device worn on the head to monitor and interpret certain brain signals. When you focus on something while wearing the device it can interpret that you are indeed focusing, and it takes it as a cue to perform a certain task, such as lighting up a lightbulb. The more you focus, the brighter the lightbulb. Another company claims to be able to interpret emotions, smiling, frowning, anger, etc... Interesting stuff to say the least.
My Opinions:
The current batch of technology definately doesn't sound like an improvement to the type of games we have now... The part at the end about Gran Turismo 4 sounds interesting though... I think if they applied the same concept to guitar hero it could really help you focus on the gamplay.
If any of you are familiar with the current state of Bionic Technology applied to prosthesis, you know that they have made HUGE leaps in the technology. Basically, people have been hooked up to bionic arms and their brain was able to re-wire itself and the patients were able to control the bionic device easily enough, using only their thoughts. Remember though, these people have had holes drilled in their heads and had electrodes attatched directly to their brain.. not really practical for your average gamer.
What I do see in this technology is the possibility to merge the two technologies. The ability to monitor and interpret the signals the brain gives off, with use of the pads on the head, as opposed to the hole in the skull. This is just my speculation, but it is interesting to dissect the possibilities.
Anyone think they'd have more fun sittin on a couch playing a game by just sitting down and watching the TV screen and thinking about it(motionless), or playing games now with a dualshock 6 axis or wii remote... I'm up in the air on this one... I love the Wiimote for COD3 and golf...
