2008 was the year the Wii finally thrust ahead of the 360 in console sales. So economically it was certainly the Wii, with Wii Fit and Wii Play consistently topping the charts.
Half-Life 2 is a good game, but it doesn't deserve the praise it's getting. I found a good third of the game to be "meh"; in other words, there were areas that felt either very repetitive (much of the driving sequences minus the bridge sequence in what I think is Highway 17), tedious (all of the find-the-switch "puzzles" in the levels before Ravenholm), or just plain dull (the gunplay in the levels before Ravenholm). On the other hand, the story was great for an FPS, even though it dragged on at times. The environment was rich and heavily detailed, and the only thing stopping the "immersion factor" from achieving its full effect was the lack of ambient sound. And running around with a fully charged gravity gun is just plain awesome.
The game has some really great moments; it's just that people are blowing them out of proportion.
I'm thankful for being born into the United States' upper middle class. Sure, our country has problems, but at least it allowed my parents to get a comfortable home, warm food every day, and a nice bed to sleep in; along with a nice amount of luxury goods, such as the gaming computer I'm playing the Red Alert 3 demo on.
Every Mario Party after 4. 2 was great, 3 was incredible, 4 brought the game to the Gamecube. Everything else was the same thing over and over again.
And the ID Software Pack on Steam when it was on sale for $35. I mean, it has all the Dooms and all the Quakes (minus 4 and QW), but it also had the Heretic and Wolfenstein series, the former of which is boring, the latter outdated.
