Video Review: Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness

No Caption Provided

I'm pleased to announce the doods from my previous IGN pub quiz article, see their mug shot here.

Josiah, Cheryl, Arfaaaaaaaan and a few more cool peeps are working on a games website, well I say 'working on' Josiah is the mastermind behind building the site, the rest of us contribute. It's nice we can all bounce off ideas of each other and one member is even Australia. Here's my first game review off my favourite Japanese role playing game series Disgaea <3 p="">

In Parallax Play 's debut video review, Aisha Anime (aka me) checks out Disgaea D2 for PS3 from NIS America, Inc. Doooood! I like the series so much I even cosplayed as Fuka the protagonist from Disgaea 4 :D

2D vs 3D Beat em Ups

Asuka from Tekken

30/04/2012

Bout 1: crash

Due to watching the promo video of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 the lines of the battlefield have blurred ? what exactly were the origins behind the first beat ?em up games? Why does Streetfighter keep to the 2D format even though we?re 3D and 4D capable now? All these questions and more will be answered.

I have always been a Sega girl from the start, my first console was a Sega Saturn and my elder brothers had a Sega Megadrive, somehow I missed the Streetfighter craze. I remember visiting a cousin?s house and playing it for the first time and thinking, this is pants, I can?t roll to the sides or evade attacks.

The first real beat em up was released 1976, Heavyweight Champ, but it was Karate Champ and The Way of the Exploding Fist which popularized one-on-one martial arts games in 1984 and 1985 Capcom?s Street Fighter won the kids over with their hidden special attacks.

Heavy weight champ

The fighting game genre boomed in the 90?s due to the high popularity of arcades, not everyone owned their own console and promoted subsequently competitive video gaming. So it began to spawn more fighting games such as Virtua Fighter for my fellow Sega players, Fighting Vipers, Battle Arena Toshinden, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Blazblue and the Soul series.
Bout 2: Wham!

Finally when you could get your hands on a console the graphics were nowhere near as good as the arcades, or didn?t match the thrill of beating your buddies with a crowd of people cheering you on or watch you be humiliated. When technology advanced so did the fighters, in 1994 Sega brought out Virtua Fighter, a game that let players move on a 3D plain. Instead of just being limited to move forwards, back and players could move freely across the ring. This brought a new kind of gameplay and style which changed the face of the fighters. Sure they looked like blockheads opposed to eye popping visuals which were demonstrated in detail by the very controversial Mortal Kombat but the experience was amplified in different aspects.

Bout 3: BAM!

Virtual fighterThere are some games that didn?t survive the years, though are extremely important to the genre. Fighting Vipers used the same mechanics of Virtual Fighter and was made by a bored Sonic the Hedgehog programmer, it had a short-lived lifespan but a lot of character and pop art imagery. The game is set apart with two unique features, one of which was after considerable damage your sports armour would break off leaving characters much more vulnerable and able to take much more damage. A human shaped meter in the top corners of the screen monitors the damage to your armour. Secondly, walls surround each arena, caging the combatants in and allowing for attacks in conjunction with them (bouncing off etc). If the correct combination is hit at the round?s finale, characters can punch their opponent straight through the walls now adapted into Mortal Kombat and Tekken backgrounds.

Battle Arena Toshinden was a killer app for the Play Station One. It was one of the first fighting games to boast polygonal characters in a 3D environment, and it is credited for taking the genre into ?true 3D? due to its introduction of the sidestep manoeuvre. Battle Arena Toshinden was the first 3D weapons fighter, and was succeeded in spirit by Soul Edge and other games of the genre.
Final Round: Knockout!

Princess Peach giving it some to MarioWhile fighting games aren?t as popular as they used to be, companies like Nintendo have realized that people just want to pick up a game and have fun. Games with similar gameplay have been replicated with classic characters like Super Smash Bros. Now we have easy access to the internet via PC, hanheld consoles, Xbox live and PSN games like Street Fighter, Tekken, 6 and Capcom vs Marvel can be taken to the next level. Whether it is a friendly match, co-op mode or a dirty brawl, beat ?em ups are staying alive!

PSP Vita Rocking the Social Network & Remote Play

05-14-2012

PSP VitaEveryone is going wild at the moment for the next generation hand consoles, summer is coming and we all want to game in the sun :) Luckily my friend Josiah bought the new PSP Vita, then won two more, so he let me borrow one to play with and hulk smash...jjust kidding.

The Playstation portable Vita (PSP Vita) was released in Europe February 2012 and had shops in a lockdown with pre orders, with rumours of long life battery to with stand the non use for a fwew days without having to charge all over again aswell as enabling augmented reality gaming and social connectivity, along with the "Near" and "Party" services similar to the Nintendo DS.

The ?Near? feature uses GPS to locate like-minded gamers to beat/taunt in the vicinity, and messaging make the console more sociable. The motion sensors are great for us retro gamers who twist and turn normal remotes and get nowhere!

Well my friend happened to get one as well as win the newer PSP Vita with 3G and in built 3D graphics. So I took the chance to see what all the hype was about and borrow one. To my amazement it was bigger than my PSP Lite but overall comfortable to use. Not being a fan of the touch screen took me a while to get accustomed to turning the pages but once I did I loved messing with the home screen options let alone playing any games.

You have a camera, which isn?t bad and something to rival your iphone or Blackberry camera,, remote play is awesome, so if you have a PS3 you can link it up and transfer game downloads from the PS Store from your PS3 to your Vita (as long as it?s compatible).

Unfortunately if you do turn it off and not play it for a few days the battery does die so you need to re charge, boo ! Another thing I disliked was the lack of icons on the actual console, couldn?t figure out where the meory card slot was without reading the manual and almost using a nail file to open the darn compartment.

The Vita is backwards compatible only with PSP downloadable games, any old UMD discs won?t work folks nor will your SD memory cards. Also as a pSP Lite owner, i found the vita large and clunky but with all the facilities I guess I shouldn't complain ^^;

Out with the old, in with the new.

Good riddence to a **** year

Screw you 2011!! Lol it wasn't all bad, actually the first 10months whizzed past like a beautiful dream it's the last two that stunk. The beginning of 2012 has been overated too, 1/3 more on travel fare and 1/3 less efficency, love you TFL NOT,

pressing charges, sueing, extorting monies it's all the same

Lol so a former work collegue contacted me the day after my ex boss did and wants to take him to courst and get minimum wage for all of us slave labourers. I entertained the thought because I'm fond of this ex collegue but alas it's pointless, there is no paperwork to confirm we worked there. It was ll undwer the premise of work experience or internship. (i discussed it with my law degree friend)*sigh*

Also a customer was demanding compensation for her cat box which was givent o another customer by mistake. I think she should get it but my bosses are so tight fisted. Get this, chirstmas work dinner, they didn't even pay for it - i had to work over for other ppl's beer bill >_< f***ing liberty !!!!!

Question:why are men so mean? My friend is besotted with this guy, but has a lot of pride so won't do any funny buisness with him not even kiss his for a dare and he's giving her the cold shoulder flirting with other girls in front of her even tho it's mutual the like for each other. I'm perplexed. Any translation to manly behavior would be great :p

FOr Xmas I got a game related pressie *YAAY* it was also the oddest gift I've ever received, it's a ds accessory anyone want to guess what it is?

ex boss please go away.

It's been a year since I let the magazine and i've got indigestion today cause my ex boss called me during dinner 0_o

Some people should be hi-fived in the face with a chair, this man is one of them.

Right now I'm working as a nurse at a vetinary surgery, it's fun when animal's AREN'T dying and a lot of hard work but i does feel furfilling when a client thanks you and shows appreciation (this does not happen a lot) and occasionally we get chocolates.

Hair update: still short, I've had many cuts since my last blog, but it is my natural colour of black with a flash of red at th front. I've got the aseymetric thing going on.

Hard Water = crap hair

I went Brighton last week and boy did it wreck my hair - the water was hard and my hair went limp and frizzy - yuck! I'm tempted to call Kiyo (Aveda - Holborn) and get my super amazing haircut tommorrow - can't stand this rank hair !

Also I've decided since going to Brighton with D4 (long story - friends who have given themselves a name) I don't think i'm going to hang out with them much - they are loyal to each other, ate my food without consent, had terrible foot odor and were very power hungry - they wanted to control everything ! I hate being controlled or told what to do when i'm capable of doing things myself.

Yes I can indeed get as bus from Shoreham to Brighton Marina by myself ! I even ran off at one point for some space, met up with an ex editor and it was grand, she even treated me to lunch at Franky & Bennys - I highly recommend the steak & chips with Cinnomon waffles for dessert people.

It's so strange meeting people who are so controlling and on the otherhand someone so laid back, what do you prefer dependance or independance?

Bored.

So what do I do to sure the summer blues? I play Disgaea on the PSP 8)

Also it's that time of year, it's my quarterly ahircut bonanza - so since the last one in feb which was a one length box bob - i hated it - it took me a while from confused to dislike then general detesting of it. So I'm looking everywhere and anywhere to get me a few layers and a fringe - damn MY FACE lookS round with out a fringe LIKE KIRBY!

Might even go to the infamous Schwartzkopf salon for a colour correction - but this place is so fifty/fifty I either come out with celebrity hair or chav hair...

Also I've sprained my ankle hence the bored-ness I can't do anything :?

Naomi Campbell's Weight Loss tips (ha...)

I was originally going to rip the piss out of the original article on the guardian (i would link it here but the url includes a word that GS does not like) but | found a couple of intresting things

 • a cocktail of Maple syrup, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and water and eating nothing else is good to detox - do this three times year for a week max - or you kill your insides basically quote anorexic model NC:

"I try to do [this] three times a year … The most I've ever done it for is 18 days. So I started on Sunday. This is my sixth day," said a Lycra-clad Campbell in a video demonstrating her workout routine. She added: "It's good just to clean out your body once in a while."

 • skipping. "The rope is great for your face" - got a fat face - skip b****!!!!
 • Don't diet, just 'smoke & drink occasionally' - so i think we should skip eating too?

Thanks Nay for the tips - hoepfully I'm be a cheekless twiglet in no time!

Peace out !
