Schtuff and Nonsense

Well, still level 10, still not an editor. Made a new banner; yes that's me - dead and BJ-style. ;) See, I *am* female!! Female, I say!!! I spent all weekend transferring the six BJ tapes I bought off of eBay to my computer in preperation for making the season one discs. Volume 5 turned out to be messed up and I wasn't able to save the first half of Prince of the Neitherworld, so I had to get that off of my homemade copy of Nickelodeon recordings. Plus I discovered that a handful of other eps were not included on the six volumes and I had to get those off of my own tapes. The weird thing is while I was doing the recording, the picture on my monitor of the videos looked great; but on playback the bottom of the picture suffers from "old-tape syndrome" (a thick black bar, due to picture shrinkage). Why it looked fine while recording but like that in playback is a mystery. I think I'll try re-recording an ep with my new software and see if that makes any difference - though I have to say, if I watch Critter Sitters even one more time I may have to throw myself out of a window. :| Anyways if I don't have to rerecord than I can actually start doing more contributions. I do realise that I could forego doing detailed overviews of each episode in order like I have been and go straight to submitting CGI info and writers for each episode; that would easily make me editor, considering there are over 90 episodes and I'd get a point for each of those two types of contributions. But eh. I'm a slave to conformity sometimes. ;) In the meantime I'm practising making dvds using my Foster's eps as guinea pigs. The new software is kinda...wonky. So I may just use the old, boring one. At least I know how to use it. In totally other news, the Oblongs dvd set is awesome. :D There were 2 eps I hadn't seen before and they were great, especially Father of the Bribe, which starred Biff and Chip, who I love. Um...I think I should end this blog post now before it eats TV.com. ;)

And...

Like many other people I had all my submissions cleared today. Pity they likely weren't enough to make me editor... :(

*Sigh*

Well I just jumped to level 9. Every time I jump levels I check my submission status, and of course...nothing. I had the brilliant idea of maybe doing some submissions to a show that *does* have an editor, just to encourage myself with some actual acceptances. I'd contribute to Foster's but that one is probably flooded with submissions all the time and short of recaps, I doubt I could come up with anything unique. I thought about submitting to another show on my Favorites that has an editor but like, *nothing* on the guide; but then I checked and the editor is only level 2, which is pretty useless. :( Bah.

Er...stuff

So I'm almost level 9 and not a one of my BJ submissions has been looked at yet. Tsk. ;P I decided to quit work on Season One and start Season Two because I broke down and finally ordered a set of the 6 videos of BJ, which contain all of Season One on them, from someone on eBay. I will have to start over digitally recording the Season One eps using those tapes instead of my homemade ones as the quality is bound to be at least marginally better, but oh well. Hopefully I can have the Season One dvd made before the year is out. Anyways by my calculations, if all of my submissions are approved, I have amassed approximately 60 points as of now. So I need to work on at least two more episodes before I can be assured of becoming editor once the backlog is cleared. In completely different news...Kiwi (my parrot) turns 8 tomorrow. Yay Kiwi!!! How she's managed to last so long without getting herself killed is a complete mystery. Lol. I'm going to get her a new playpen, hopefully today, to replace the one she pooped all over and I can't clean anymore. Ew.

It happened again!

Yesterday I shot up from a level 4 with 90-something percent to a level 5 with ninety-something percent. I haven't been submitting reviews so I guess it's all forum posts? I dunno. I still have less than 200 posts to my name, that doesn't seem like much. Oh well. Argh, the sooner I finish capping Foster's eps the sooner I can concentrate on submissions for BJ, as I'm transferring eps to my harddrive one by one so I can make dvd's and so at the same time making submissions. Now I'm wanting to be editor for Popeye too because a classic like that shouldn't be ignored but I suppose I really should do things one at a time. Too bad my brother's not interested in maintaining online guides, he'd be a great editor for Popeye. Oh well...again.

Holy crud!!

I'm almost level 5 all of a sudden! :P I won't be able to enjoy being a Thighmaster for long, shucks! Also: I suck at making banners. :P

Yay!

I'm finally a Soup Nazi! Fear the might of my link-fu!!! ...Okay, that's all I really have to say... :)

Erk...

Well, I hate when I misspeak or make a mistake, so I'm back to clear up one thing I said in my last post and speculate on another. Regarding the BJ fanart posted on the Beetlejuice show page: It turns out that show pictures are picked out and posted only by staff, and as staff of course does not *wish* to use fanart, the use of my drawing was a mistake. Yes, the staff had thought it was an official picture and ganked it. I have talked to someone about it and sent them a link to an official logo on my site they can use instead, though they are so backlogged right now it will likely take a month or more for that to be straghtened out. More complicated is the issue of all the show synopses stolen from my website. A few years ago an online BJ fan I'm acquainted with emailed me to inform me that she had recently picked up an issue of some cartoon industry magazine that was running a copy of my episode guide (whether or not it included my personal reviews I do not know, as I told her I really just didn't want to hear it - I had recently witnessed several items selling on eBay featuring my fanart and was kinda peeved). Now, some of the synopses here on tv.com have typos/error in them, which always seemed odd to me, because if they were cut/pasted, they should perfectly match the original guide on my website. Well *now* I believe that whomever submitted those synopses may have been typing transcribing them manually from that magazine, which would explain the occasional typo, and excuse them from knowing that it was written by a fan. What I *don't* know is if those synopses were submitted by a user, or entered by tvtome staff. I'm rather hoping for the latter, because if that is so then I don't have to worry about an old tvtome user popping up and transferring their submission history here and therefore making it very difficult for me to amass enough points to become editor. As currently the *only* submitted info other than my own recent stuff on the Beetlejuice show is the ep synopses, and if again it was tvtome staff that entered the synopses, than I should have no trouble becoming and remaining editor. Back on tvtome you became an editor for an editorless show simply by requesting it (I had chosen not to), and I do know that the BJ show changed hands at least once, but I do not know how many points any of those people had as I never paid attention, and only became active on tvtome at all so I could participate in the Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends forums. Anyways. I feel somewhat better now about my stuff being ganked (although the fact still remains that my ep guide *was* printed in a *magazine*!!!). :P

The Online Part of My Life

Well. My name isn't really Sparky, of course; I earned that nickname in 1992, my senior year of high school, by devoting myself to the character of Megavolt from Disney's Darkwing Duck. Fangirlish, I quoted him all day, drew doodles of him on the chalkboards of empty classrooms, and argued with people about the brutal enslavement of innocent incandescent light fixtures. My friends called me Sparky, hoping, I imagine, to aggravate me the way that nickname aggravated poor Elmo Sputterspark - but it backfired on them and now, at 30, I still use the name. My first fansite was indeed devoted to The Fearsome Five from Darkwing Duck (it's actually still up and running); though when I discovered there were no websites at all devoted to either the movie or the cartoon Beetlejuice, I started one for both. The Beetlejuice cartoon, also out in 1992, was my *other* passion, and I dressed my best friend up as Lydia and myself as BJ for our senior year's Halloween costume contest - we won, yes, a coupon for a large pizza. Go us. Anyways, I took a bunch of screencaps for the liveaction portion of my new BJ site, and - I swear - *instantly* a swarm of Beetlejuice fansites exploded all over the Net, all based solely on showing off (yup) my screengrabs. :P Sigh. I was noon thereafter contacted politely by a BJ fan who wanted to make an actual *developed* BJ fansite, not just screencaps in other words, and he asked if he could use my pictures. Glad that someone was finally *asking*, I just gave them all to him and deleted the liveaction portion of my site altogether, deciding to concentrate on the cartoon. Well, my BJ cartoon site isn't the only one out there these days, but it *was* the first! theneitherworld.com, while probably not as popular as it once was, used to at one point get hundreds of hits a day on the entrance page alone; such is my legacy. I'm proud of it, anyways. Incidentally, the reason I joined tvtome.com (and now tv.com) is related to my BJ site, but in a negative way: I discovered that someone had come to my site, copied all my episode synopses, and pasted them into the tvtome BJ episode guide. Without my permission. Well, that skeeves me off, I'll tell you what. How very tacky. Someone got over 90 submissions out of my years of work. Whoever you are, if you're reading this right now, I hope you feel at least a little bit of shame. No, that episode guide is not *official* in any way, *I* wrote it, a fan, and you stole from me. Also, the artwork on the front page of the BJ guide (at this time, anyhow, I may try to get it taken down) - guess what, I DREW THAT, it's not official clipart or anything. Whoever took that and posted it, YOU SUCK. There, I said it. Well, with that all said, I hope now to become the new editor for the Beetlejuice cartoon show here on tv.com. Unfortunately I cannot submit anything until I am level 2, so, here goes my blog, in hopes that will raise my level faster. Cheers. :) ~Sparky, 2005 PS: Oh yeah, forgot to mention...I know the name "Sparky" is a little neutral. Well, I'm a chick. Cheers again. ;)
