Dual Review: Nintendogs and Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Advance Wars Dual Strike is the third game in the highly praised Advance Wars series. I played a little of the first, but other than that this was new to me. Other than the difficulty, I'm pleased to report this is an all around great game and should be in any DS owner's collection. When you first start the campaign, you watch the Advance Wars version of a cutscene which is really just pictures of the characters faces with text by them. It's nothing ground breaking but it works. The basic story of the game is the infamous Black Hole Army is back and you and several new recruits have to stop them. It uses the timeless strategy of not letting you know the enemies plan until it's nearly too late to stop them. When you finally get to play, you are guided by your mentor Rachael. She tells you what units do and what most of the controls are. The first few levels ease you in very gradually to what you think will be a pretty simple game, but things get rough fast. Almost every mission one or more new units are put in for you to use. This is fun until you are forced to use all of them together. That is when things get frustrating. You have tons of units and you struggle to remember what situations each excels in. This will likely take you several tries to complete and get used to. Once you do though, the game gets a little easier since you know what everything does. You'll know at a glance how far each unit can move and know what each unit is at a glance. This is when the game gets really fun. Another cool feature is the CO's abilities. When you kill enemies the CO meter fills up. When it's full you can do a special move which buffs your units, or if you wait to fill the second bar up you can unleash a power that can turn the tides in a single turn. Depending on which CO you're using the buffs are different. One CO might specialize in close range while the next specializes in long range. This adds even more choices at your disposal to take down your enemies. The graphics are nothing special. In two words, very pix-elated. They could have been done better but in the long run it doesn't detract from the overall experience of the game. The sound is, again, nothing to get excited about. There are very few different songs in the game, but at least the ones you do have are pretty good. It keeps the atmosphere light and upbeat. In addition to the campaign, there are several other game modes. My personal favorite is just like the regular game except in real time. Others include a multiplayer for use with friends and a map editor. This makes the replay value huge. You will most likely be playing this game for months. It is addictive, fun, and well, addictive. If you're a fan of the first two Advance Wars games or a newcomer, this game has something for almost everyone.

Nintendogs

I have been waiting for this game since I first heard about it. I wanted it so bad I almost imported one from Japan just to play it. Now it's mine (and in English, I might add) and it's great. The puppies are incredibly lifelike and unbelievebly fun to play with. When you first turn play the game you are told to choose a puppy to take home. Depending on which version you get, you will have a different selection of puppies. All versions are exactly the same except for the dogs types, so it doesn't matter too much which one you buy. When you get your puppy and bring him home there is a tutorial you follow. It teaches you how to train and play with your new friend. It makes use of the stylus and the microphone, so it's a very hands on game. After the tutorial is done you're on your own. It's up to you to train your dog and keep him alive. You have to buy water and food to feed him, and bathing stuff to give him a bath. You can take him on walks and pick up items along the way. After you take him on a few walks his stamina will get better and he will be able to walk farther. On the walks you can stop by the park and train for competitions. Competitions are probably the best part of the game. You can train your dog and take them to compete for cash prizes and their ranks will automatically move to what I like to call the dogs "permanant record". It shows how hungry and thirsty your dog is, as well as how much time he has spent with you, how clean he is, what tricks he knows and what he has eaten. The game is pretty simple and most of the fun comes from just playing with your dog. The game is better played in short sessions as your dog gets tired after a lot of activity. Overall, this is the best game on the DS to date.

World of Warcraft Level 60!

I've finally done it. Level 60, the level cap, in World of Warcraft. With my levels out of the way, I need to finish up my Onyxia key quests and help my guild with Molten Core. This is just the beginning of the end.

Level 60

World of Warcraft Updated Pic

Since the photo was the same at level 55, I figured I'd treat all you avid readers to a pic at level 56 after I've gotten my first Dreadmist set piece: the gloves.

Don't let the smile on his face trick you, he will knock you flat. Don't mess.

World of Warcraft: Level 55 - The Final Stretch

It was a tough 5 levels since 50 and it will only get harder as I continue. I started the Plaguelands which have proved to give little experience for very hard quests. I also started Winterspring but found most of the quests are above my level. I did Blackrock Depths and finished my "Attunement to the Core" as well as working on my Onyxia Key quest for all of you who know what that is. In the new patch 1.6 it added changes to the Warlock Talent trees so I had to redistribute my points. Other than all that, I did a Sunken Temple run and helped some n00bs with the Deadmines. Can't wait to hit 60.

Level 55

Yeah, looks exactly the same as 50 except for the pants, the other changes werent cosmetic.

World of Warcraft: Level 50

Hit level 50 on July 2nd. Haven't actually gotten to play since then. I'm getting real excited about the final push to level 60. I have been questing in Searing Gorge and started Un'goro Crater. I'm loving the spin of the Legend of Zelda series. There is a guy named Linken and the reward is a boomerang and "Linken's Sword of Mastery". Why does that sound familiar? Anyway, I'm having a great time playing and have met some really cool people and I look forward to spending more time in Azeroth.

War of the Worlds: Excellent

The movie was awesome. You need to see it. I'm not going to sit here and preach to you about how good it was cause I want you to be as blown away by it as I was. Go see it. Now.

World of Warcraft: Level 45

When I think about where I've gone and quested from 40-45, I think where HAVEN'T I been. However the majority of the time was spent in Feralas and Tanaris. There was a lot of Uldaman and Zul Farrak runs which got me a lot of new equipment if not all cosmetic. I got really annoyed with the last part of a chain of quests because it's bugged and I want the reward you get for competing it. Not much else other than that. Still enjoying my mount. Want to go to Maraudon and get the Gemshard Heart from Princess but haven't been able to so far.

World of Warcraft: Level 40

Hit level 40 today. Got my mount. It was free since I'm a warlock. I love it, you go a lot faster than regular running. I got a few new spells and upgrades for my minions. Between level 35 and 40 there have been very few cosmetic changes but a few worth noting. That hat I'm wearing may look kinda stupid, but it's actually really really good. I got new shoulder pads and a new belt as well. The biggest one is the staff thats on my back. I really like the staff and I got it enchanted which increases the damage it does and is also why it glows red. I went to Razorfen Downs and Scarlet Monastary and other than that I was just questing around. I did do a little PvP and took advantge of the new Honor System to achieve the rank of "Private" and got that blue tabard you see on me rather than my guild tabard. Level 39 was a long one cause I was so ready to hit the next and get my new stuff but I finally made it!

Level 40

The head of my mount

Well, after lots of consideration, I've updated my Top 5 Games of All Time

Been playing a lot of that good ol' MMO and have made the descision. Here is my updated list....

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

A true classic, the more and more I try and think of a better game, the more I realize there isn't one. No matter how much time has past since its release, the combat, the puzzles, the story, everything stays just as engaging and fun as it was the first time you played it.

Halo 2

The greatest FPS of all time.

God of War

The flowing gameplay and puzzles makes it the more modern and mature Legend of Zelda.

World of Warcraft

So much detail into everything, mass amounts of content and great character creation make this one of my favorite games.

Final Fantasy X

This game was the reason I bought a PS2. Played it for months on end.

World of Warcraft: My account + Reactivation = Ownage

I have reached level 35 and am getting really excited about my mount at level 40. I have been questing in Stranglethorn Vale but messed up and did all the quests early so now all I have is red quests. I decided I was getting nowhere and moved into Kalimdor and started questing in Desolace. I don't really like the environment but it's more my level than Stranglethorn. I reactivated my account on Saturday May 21 when I was level 31 and now Thursday May 26 I'm level 35 and half way to 36. I'm just now getting back into the game and I'll be posting updates roughly every 5 levels or everytime something worth noting happens. Here is a pic of me at level 35.
