Just to let you guys know. I'm going for the PS3.

Although I will miss out on the expansion packs for GTA 4 (unless they release them later for PC *crossing my fingers*),

the exclusives for xbox or not the kind of games I want to play on a console. Gears Of War and Halo or FPS in general are not games I want to play on a console.

I prefer PC for those games. I would probably use the console mostly for fighting games and very story heavy games, which I'm hoping Heavy Rain is.

As many of you mentioned, a lot of Xbox games also turn up for the PC, so I see no point in having two machines that has the same repertoire of games.

Thanks for the help guys :D

This is a re-post of a question I posted on a wrong board a few weeks ago.

I know there is a hundred if not thousands of threads about PS3 vs. Xbox 360.

But this is not the normal kind of one vs the other kind of thread... I think...

Here goes...

I would like to buy one of the two for some casual gaming. Normally I'm a pc gamer (very casual), and that's not gonna change.

But games like UFC and Fight Night never ventures into the world of PC

I can afford either of the two, although xbox is my price favorite at the moment.

I live in Denmark and the price difference is pretty big. I can buy a Xbox 360 (80gb + hdmi) with an extra controller and 1-2 games for the price of a standard PS3 with no extra accessories (controller or games). But again price isn't really the biggest concern for me.

I'm not really sure if i'm ever gonna use the console for anything else than gaming, so is it worth giving the extra bucks for the PS3?

I rarely rent movies, and the bluray selection is scarce so normal DVD's are fine for now.

I'm not planning on using the console for anything online (unless you can convince me otherwise).

The whole exclusive games thing is p***ing me off. I play a lot of GTA 4 on PC, and I would like to try the expansion packs (or what ever they are called).

But Hard Rain for PS3 looks interesting too :-/

The new splinter cell game, conviction?? or something like that is also on my wish list. But I can't remember if that's an exclusive game :|

I don't want to buy both, because I know one of them will end up never getting used.

-

Should I let price tell me what to buy or can you guys help pick one. I don't care about noise or looks, just the entertainment value.

I don't know if this helps, but here is some of my preferred games for pc (types).

GTA 4 is my all-time favorite. Mafia 2 will probably take it's place.

Mass Effect is pretty awesome. I'm getting Mass Effect 2 when it comes .

I'm going to try the new Batman game when it comes out, but I'm not sure if it's a game i'm going to play more than once.

Max Payne is also a favi... Hopefully the third will be too.

I have never played theses games on a console, but I would like to try it some day.

I'm hoping this will make sense to one of you guys, because it sure as chocolate covered reindeer balls doesn't to me :-S

I lowered the resolution in GTA 4, from 1900 x something to 1600 x something and set everything on medium as a max.

Now I can game longer than before. Up to an hour instead of 5-15minutes like before (still crashes at some point).

But the temps are the same on both graphics and CPU.

I tried putting the fan(es) on full blast from the beginning and setting the fan(s) on default, in both cases it changed nothing.

((This includes case fans.)) I did this in the high resolution and lower resolution (the two mentioned earlier).

-

I've bougth new ram that will replace the old (I will have them by friday) and I'm looking at a new graphic-card.

I'm considering switching to radeon instead of nvidia... Off-topic, but now you know :)

If this doesn't solve my crashes, I'm converting to become amish and turning my back on technology:cry:

I've been googling this a little bit, but most of the threads I find are none-conclusive.

Do I have to "tell" my game(s) to run in 64bit mode (if supported) or does that happen be itself?

I recently installed windows 7 64bit, and GTA 4 installed with out any complications.

The intalled files ended up in a folder called "program files (x86)" and as fare as I could understand that is becaus the launch files and side applications as "social club" and "windows live" are only able to run in 32bit mode.

-

Is there any way of checking if my game is running in 64bit mode?

I'm doing some hardware replacing in my rig.... or upgrading :)

Anyway, I'm currently looking at graphic cards. And now i'm wondering if I should buy one of those 2 in 1 cards (ex. 4870x2) or just a "normal" card with more ram like GTX 295.

-

I read somewhere that the whole two graphic cards in one wasn't the logical thing to do in the long run (for game developers and gamers alike).

My computer knowlegde is somewhat basic, i'm probably a 5 or a 6 on a 1 to 10 rating scale (pc skills, and general knowlegde regarding hardware).

So I pretty much have to believe most of what I read, or at least check into it like i'm doing now :)

-

What would you guys say?

I have a new symptom. It has only happend twice. (as far as I remember)

While doing random stuff in windows, listening to winamp and browsing files or the internet.

It started to stutter, it plays two or three seconds of the music fine and then stutters like a cd with a scratch in it. d d d and then plays two or three seconds again.

The mouse is also affected by this. You can pull the cursor across the screen, then it stops for a second and then it follows your movement again.

It happend in vista (32bit) once, but since it didn't happen again right after I thought it was just some vista weirdness that needed a reboot.

Then the other day it happend in windows 7 (64bit). I'm suspecting the memory, - eventhoug the memtest came up negative with errors.

Ideas?

Crypt_mx>> I've already tried that. Didn't work for me.

The issue occurs in XPHOME andPRO and Vista Business. All legal versions, so there can't be any "crack" problems there. I might be able to get a Vista ultimate 64bit from work, but i doubt that will help :(

neatfeatguy>> i'll try speedfan. Thanks

You weren't able to go into my computer -> right click disk -> properties -> tools -> "Error-checking" ? That's the only way I know of, unless there's a third party program.

If you just formatted and it's still happening then it's most likely not a software issue. You're just going to have to keep eliminating specifics. Memory is out of the way. GPU would be my next guess. Followed by HDD, CPU, Motherboard. You can eliminate the HDD and GPU by swapping. You could try installing a small game that you know has issues on an external flash drive or something. Then see if it still causes problems, HDD has been eliminated.

GPU and Motherboard are most difficult. You have to swap the GPU or if there's a REALLY light program that has a solid color crash, you could remove the GPU and just run it on the CPU alone. Motherboard... I'm not too sure. I've never had a bad motherboard so I can't be of much help there. Perhaps just send in a support ticket to Gigabyte to see if they have any idea.

Swiftstrike5

Is this function also in xp? I can't find it, if it is¿

I formatted before i got the chance to do the disk error checking in vista. (I was forced to format, vista kept crashing 10secs after start.)

I found an old harddrive i'll try to put in instead of my raptor and see what happens.

This is super annoying, i've been putting together pc's for 8 years and there have never been any kind of issues. They all just worked till i needed to upgrade the hardware :( I hate pc's right now

I forgot to mention, it never ever happens when i'm not gaming. So browsing and watching movies etc dosen't provoke the issue.

F'ing wierd if you ask me :?

Anyway, I ran the vista memory test and no errors were found. I couldn't get memtest to work on vista. (burned it wrong or something, boot from cd-drive didn't respond to the cd)

I just formatted the pc and installed xp home. Not by choice, -I misplaced my vista cd

I installed partion magic 8.0, but when I try to run"check for errors" itcomesup with this message

Error #993 Partition contains open files. Use the operating system check utility.

So it can't run the check up while in the operating system. I can't find any "do on the reboot" function.

Any ideas how to check my primary disk? I still don't have the option of swapping around hardware in different pc's.

I'm kind of hoping it's the disk, easy problem to fix and it will give me an excuse to buy more storage :D
