My solid color has never been blue :-/

So if blue indicates psu problems, it's not my problem... I guess.

It seems to be influenced by the most dominating color at the time of the crash.

In GTA 4 it usually turns grey (the road is grey... ish....) But it has also turned green and white.

I can't recall the solid color when it crashed in empire total war. Just got the game, so this stupid computer has to work soon :(

And it never turned off during gaming, just froze.

I have a somewhat new rig. Well it's a year old so it's already getting close to stone-age :P

Anyway, my problem is not new and i've actually found a few threads about it around the internet.

But no one seems to have any answers. So you guys are my last chance... Or my rigs last chance, -

I'm considering trashing it because it's getting ridiculously annoying.

After a random amount of time (sometimes minutes sometimes hours or even not at all) it crashes to a solid color.

I can't ctrl-alt-del myself to the desktop, it simply stops responding. And the sound stutters if caught in a sentence.

It happens in GTA 4 (random or never), Empire Total War (always a matter of minutes with this game), Brothers in arms - hells highway (also in minutes),

Mass Effect (random or never). I played a little Far Cry 2 and as far as I can recall it never happend in that game.

My rig is a

2,6 Ghz Quad with a xigmatek hdt-s1283 cooler

9800GTX Nvidia (asus)

Corsair 2gb ram - not sure on the brand.

PSU Antec NeoHE 500EC 500 Watt

Mobo GIGABYTE GA-X48T-DQ6

HD Western Digital 80Gb raptor disc

I checked the temps and they are ok, not amasing but ok.

My cpu never gets past 45º degress.

On the graphic card i've used rivatuner until the latest update of the nvidia drivers. Fan control doesn't work anymore for some reason

but before that, the temp peaked at 60-65º degrees.

I've updated firmware on the mobo, the drivers for the onboard sound, tried old as new drivers for the graphics, a fresh install of vista with no updates and also with all the latest updates.

I don't have sp2 yet, but i doubt it will do anything.

Everything is "default".... No overclocking of any kind.

A bit off topic, but i'm considering buying a 285GTX or a 4870x2 to see if that helps. But i'm fearing the worst and the fact that the problem might not go away :-/

I don't have any extra computers laying around to swap hardware with. So this problem has to be solved as the rig is now :-/

Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated :)
