NoDeath Blog

Goodbye...

Anyone reading this right now knows exactly what its about so I'll cut to the chase. I've canceled my Total Access subscription. I'll stick around at least until Jeff posts something on his blog, maybe catch the next hotspot and on the spot but unless something big is announced - say Jeff is reinstated, an official apology is given and whomever was responsible for his dismissal is fired (though honestly the possibility of all that happening is about the same as me winning the lottery. Without buying a ticket) I'll be out of here.

Its been a great few years, GS has been the homepage for my browser for over a year now, and the incredible community has Bourne many friendships for someone who has some serious trouble making real ones. I'll be sad to go and I wish you all well.

OMFG SPOILERS IF YOU

HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO THE

PLOT TWIST IN BIOSHOCK

DO NOT READ

AHEAD!!!!11!!one

"would you kindly..." and after me begging him not to tell me any more continued until he told me THE ENTIRE PLOT TWIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! now i'm gonna go sit in the corner and cry.

I am the champion

If you read down a few posts you will see that a goal I had set myself was to beat 1 million points in geometry wars, well I actually did that a little while ago (if you look at my Gamertag you'll find my XBL high score is about 1,500,000 though its actually roughly 1,700,000) today I tried on the PC version and my highest score on geometry wars, a full million over my previous PC high score:

I scaled it down to fit the blog post, the full size image can be found here

Time stops for no man...

Time zones suck.. They just suck, you know if the world was flat it wouldn't suck as much, (should I become catholic?...... maybe not). I would have loved to be able to watch the E3 stage demos live, but being in Australia, I would have had to stay up till 3am and watch through till midday. Whats wrong with the On-demand stage shows, you may ask, well for one it cuts out all the coverage except the stage demos and most importantly (at least for me), I can't ask questions -and I've had some good ones- leaving me to sit there and hope someone else asked it. The one thing I really wanted to ask was in The Orange Box presentation, I wanted to know if portal came with a level editor, cause that would be rad (as long as they made it not broken/difficult to use if your not a semi-professional mapper/pain in the ass to use). So basically this just really sucks.

New Emblem

So being E3 I got the Ninty press conference emblem. the MS one was about 1p.m but my Internet broke (another big problem down under) so I missed out on watching it live and I WASN'T staying up til 4:30am for the Sony one. It was pretty crap anyway, just stuff on mostly the same games as the MS one, tons on home (don't know who in their right minds would buy a PS3 because of it) and a cool new trailer for MGS 4, Oh and the LITEr PSP.

Goalies Update

So its Saturday night and I still have.. um.. all my goals to complete for Monday. For those of you who don't know what my Gaming Goalies are, each Monday, I set myself gaming related goals for the following week, this week it was to finish gears on insane, and beat 1,000,000 points on Geometry Wars. This being my first week, with the goals I sorta over estimated my abilities, firstly, I didn't play gears half as much as I expected this week and I vastly underestimated how HARD insane is. This leaves me half way through act 3, where Dom and I split up just before the Corpser (dam lambent wretches *twitches*). As for Geo wars, I play and play and play and I have yet to beat 800,000-got over 700,000 a couple of times but the elusive million stays firmly out of reach.

Please leave comments

4 of my recent blog posts are comment-less (which leads me lo believe no-one read them). Feedback is very valuable to me so please leave me with any thoughts on what I've written along with anything you agree/disagree with... PLEASE!!

Neighbours, Everybody needs good neighbours

I guess all those blogs paid off, cause I got a new emblem!

"Love thy neighbor.
Those who are neighborly have a good number of mutual friendships, and the community as a whole is better off for them. Perhaps these individuals, in actuality, live in college dorm rooms, parents' basements, dingy apartments, or other such facilities devoid of actual, physical neighbors. Like, you know, the ones who come over to ask to "borrow" a cup of sugar or to use your lawnmower? Those worthless freeloaders, I swear... Oh, never mind."

Oh Gamespot, Why do you Torment me so?

In case you didn't know I live about an hour and a half drive south-west of Sydney in Australia. The important part of that sentence was 'Australia'. Again if you didn't know, I'm 16. The important part of that sentence was 'I'm 16'. In the US the ESRB rate games as M 17+ or AO 18+ for violence and other naughty stuff (I personally don't understand whats so special about the one year between M and AO, but maybe thats just me). Down here in Aus the office of film and literature classification (OFLC) rates games M 15+ or MA 15+ (I understand even less about the A) that places me too young to play in the US but old enough to play anything (except games refused classification where I have to be over 18 ) in Australia.

Gamespot AU the Australian Gamespot site does not let me watch certain videos due to ESRB guidelines. The ESRB hold no jurisdiction in Aus, the OFLC does (please correct me if I'm wrong). I should be allowed to watch the latest stranglehold trailer, I should be able to watch the Bioshock trailers, I should be able to watch the GTA video reviews, I should be able to watch the Darkness video review, I should ..........

Of course some of you (read the 1 and a half of you who end up reading this) might say 'Just change what you set as your age in the profile' I say it doesn't let me change my age after I first put it in. Again you might say 'Make a new account and change your age that way', well its a possibility, but I would lose my 5 blog posts, all my emblems, and my level, I know their even dumber than 360 achievement points but I don't want to lose them. And even if I did one of these things it wouldn't change the overall problem it would only be getting around it. What I say we do is all Aussies here at Gamespot should bring up this problem, How hard can it be to add along with AU release dates, news, comps and reviews something as simple as a rating.

Oh and if your reading this chances are you haven't read the other 3 posts I've made today.

Gaming Goalies

I'm on quite a roll wouldn't you say!

So I thought of a new segment for the blog:

Gaming Goalies:

Here every Monday I list a set of gaming goals for the week, the following Monday I will address any goals uncompleted and list new ones.

This Weeks Gaming Goalies:

Beat Gears of War on Insane:

I beat the game on hardcore less than 20 minutes ago so a week for insane - Lets Move Out!

Score 1,000,000 points in Geometry Wars:

My current high score stands at 749,685 (400 hundred more points - literally one enemy- and I would have gotten another life)

New Games:

Deus Ex

OK, I've been getting a lot of older adventure games lately and I thought I would try and old skool shooter (other than doom, quake and half life- I've already played them) and so I settled on Deus Ex (It was on Steam-what can I say) and I didn't get past the first level-this game really hasn't aged well. On an older game like this the technical prowess of the graphics shouldn't be criticized so I'll leave them alone. The one thing that really stopped me from enjoying it was the clunky control scheme and interface, I spent half an hour fiddling with the controls and it still didn't feel right. I might pick it up again a bit later.
