Thats right! Not only do I design and describe my new system, I impliment it aswell!
My Life:
Not a lot beyond the norm has happened over the past few months (school and games). Though I did receive my mid-year report card and its pretty much what I always get - all C's in English and top of the year in Science and Math and second in IT.
New Games:
Quite a list here:
Gears of War, Geometry Wars: RE, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Sam and Max: Culture Shock and Grim Fandango
Gears of War:
Really great game - that's about all I can say, great graphics, innovative game mechanics (cover, active reload), cool (yet a "bit" 2 dimensional) characters, unbelievable action, very good learning curve, lots of replayability (beaten it 3 times, almost 4) great Co-op that makes the single player feel flat without it, just plain awesome.
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
This is the first game in a long time to take me off of Counter Strike - which I play(ed) religiously. It falls into the category of incredibly easy to learn and incredibly hard to master which makes, combined with cool graphics and (maybe not so original) concept an incredibly addictive game.
The Longest Journey:
Great game, Best story in a game EVER! There are some truly incredible moments in this game thanks to the intricately woven storyline, not the least of which is when April (the main character) meets with the mysterious dark people. To present this great story is an incredible group of voice actors that bring life and personality to the game. The background environments are extremely detailed and add to the atmosphere greatly. The puzzles are some of the best thought out I've experienced in an adventure game, no longer do I just randomly use things in the inventory on every possible thing to try and solve the game through brute force (I'm lookin at you lucasarts) but through logical thinking -with a few exceptions - one involving a deflating rubber ducky, a clamp and a piece of clothesline (it makes a fishing rod that you use on a key). The one thing I have to say against this game without spoiling anything is that the ending is a HUGE anticlimax. Really good and immersing game overall!
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
After playing TLJ I immediately bought Dreamfall, no sooner had I begun playing that I began to feel disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting - maybe in the back of my head an exact copy of TLJ (gameplay wise) with better graphics but no, it was very different, though I didn't let that stop me from playing it, what did that was the bland characters, the brain-dead combat (mash the A button untill they die) and the annoying stealth sequences, I finally couldn't take anymore in the caves in chapter 5 (anyone who has played the game knows what I'm talking about) and haven't touched the game since.
Sam and Max: Culture Shock
Pretty funny point n click, pretty simple puzzles, cool unique characters. I hope to get others in the series.
Grim Fandango
Are you starting to see a pattern yet? No? (lots of old skool adventure games). This game provides a very interesting, humorous and compelling storyline from the one and only Tim Schafer. Like I mentioned earlier Lucasarts is known for its tough as nails adventure games and this is no exception, a lot of the puzzles require either hours of scouring environments and combination attempts or a guide/Faq to work from.
