The whole world is desensitized. It has more to do with us seeing at least 5 murders a day, people dying in the streets, world hunger and pollution so thick you can swim in it, than it has to do with violence in video games.
@meatz666 You're taking it the wrong way mate, I am fully aware that depression is a real illness, but what I tried to point out is that A LOT of people are being mislead into thinking they're sick when in fact they're just having the blues.
I have deep respect for people going through real depressions. But I also think that a lot of you people claiming that you have "this and this disorder" are fooling yourself into thinking that you're sick. Isn't it interesting to know that depression is increasing, but mostly in the developed world? Especially the US is experiencing a tremendous increase, which is odd, considering you have the most (pharma)drug friendly society in the world. Oh wait, that's not odd at all, if you read up on anti-dep medicine you'll quickly realize that we are dealing with science that we do not fully understand yet. Some anti-dep medicines are actually known to cause depression and anxiety, funny eh? You live in a pill society where everything can be fixed by going to the doctor, if the doctor tells you that you have depression, you believe him. One thing is to eat a pill to fight off an infection and another thing is eating a pill to control your brain.
Believe what you want, but your depression is most likely caused by improper diet, bad exercise and a low point in your life. We all have depression in us, it's a part of life. Some people decide to beat it with willpower and some people decide to live with it (and the meds) because they think "that's how I am". And just to not sound like a flaming asshole I'll refer to my first sentence: I do truly have deep respect for the clinically, genetically and chronically depressed.
Let me teach you something important: Life is about the ups and downs. You can't have one without the other. If you never feel like shit, then you'll never feel great and vice versa.
