@Daian Fortunately potential discomfort comes mostly from software now, not the HMD. There's no eyestrain from the optics as they have your eyes focused and relaxed at infinity.

@jericho3kXXX @ajay1708 You should be ok. Because the screens are so close to your face, a controlled distance from your eyes, the 3d effect is easy and natural. The optics have your eyes viewing these screens in a relaxed state, you aren't focusing on a close up object or anything. As far as your eyes/brain are concerned, you have nothing in front of your face. No eye strain.

Discomfort CAN occur but it's from software and not hardware. Games that aren't properly set up for the Rift, unnatural movements, etc...

@fei-long277 @the_big_doggg Correct, the image on the LCD in the HMD is warped, and then you view it through lenses which correct the distortion and it creates the massive field of view (though not 100% of your vision yet). These optics also keep your eyes focused at infinity, relaxed, so there's no eye strain from extended use.

The effect isn't like staring at a screen a few inches from your face, it's more like your head has been transported to the game world.

@billlabowski I've got a Rift, it isn't really heavy or uncomfortable to wear at all. The third strap over your head takes the already low weight and makes it almost weightless.

The only discomfort occurs on really warm days, the current design needs some more ventilation around the eyes as it's easy to sweat and fog the lenses. On cool/comfortable days there's no issue, can wear the thing for hours. But, like someone said, this dev model everyone is seeing is not what the consumer model will be.

@BamaGoatt @Norb_ @Hvac0120 My lawyer has made it clear that I'm not supposed to talk about it, at least not until the trial is over.

@BamaGoatt @Norb_ @Hvac0120 You might have been reading some people with ideas for how to see the real world while wearing the HMD - one put forward was to put a camera on front of the device so you can toggle the display and look out around, without taking off the Rift.

But as of now, and I have a dev kit, you can't see outside of the HMD.

@BamaGoatt @SirNormanislost @Hvac0120 Ya a common way to run it now is in duplicate mode on the monitor, the problem with this would be once you get into high end gaming you might not be able to spare the power to render the game over two displays and still have it run smoothly.

@BamaGoatt @Hvac0120 You can't anything except the game world except for maybe a small slit near your nose depending on your face shape - though the dev model form factor is not going to be the same as the consumer.

Being cut off from the real world is somewhat of a concern as, with good headphones and the HMD, you have no idea what's going on around you.
