From a sentimental and nostalgic standpoint, I'd have to say Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, as my love for that game NEVER DIES, no matter how much time goes by, no matter how many thousands of times I play it, nor how many dozen other more mature, and more complex RPGs I play following my very first experience with the game, and the genre of RPGs, in 1998.

I was totally in love with the game at the time, thanking my parents several times for buying me the game, and singing the game's praises constantly. 'It's like an interactive movie.' I didn't know there were other games like it at the time, and everything about it endeared me. To my green little brain, that was the biggest, and most in-depth game I'd ever played, and it seemed like I'd always be discovering something new each time I played through it. If I would have been given FF7 (and a PSX) not too long afterwards, I'm sure I would have been as much of a fanboy for that game as the rest of them, but alas, over the next several years, my knowledge of RPGs would dovetail into ignorance, and I'd blow many years on crappy new games, and replaying old ones, which could have been better spent on the RPGs I'd eventually play later way too late in my life. The fanboys probably still would have negatively affected my experience anyway if I would have listened to them. They always find a way to.

In a lot of ways, that game still seems like a masterpiece to me. The gameplay and design is simple, but seemingly perfect in its construction; and although the story can't possibly satisfy an adult - and I now see how cliched and hackneyed the plot is (besides simple) brought in line with the history of RPGs up until that time the game was made - it still retains a high place just because of the humor of the writing. It's because it doesn't take itself too seriously that it manages to bypass the kind of scrutiny that would be given to an RPG that calls itself 'more mature.' I still think it's an outstanding game even though I've played better RPGs which could only be called better because of their deeper narratives and more refined gameplay. Despite my nostalgic/sentimental bias, it's for this reason could be argued that it's the best RPG.

But as for a list of the honorable mentions that follow along that kind of line, I would say thatFinal FantasyVI, Chrono Cross, and Vagrant Story, are damn fine games, and are must-plays. It's a shame they all have to be Square games, but I'm afraid that developer is largely where my RPG experience lies, and those are the three best RPGs I've ever played besides SMRPG.

This is not a topic to argue about your opinions on games and how to present them, I made it to hear about decent RPGs for the GBA. Please take your disagreement somewhere else. In other news, just managed to get ahold of some FF GBA games, will play them soon once I'm finished with FFXIII.ModeDude
LOL it was inevitable that would happen when you started this thread.

Lot of great replies on this thread, and a lot of great games mentioned.

Last time I was here, I kept trying to multi-quote reply to everyone, but it kept failing, and I lost interest, and moved on.

Just wanna say one thing: EMULATORS :D

All my Saturn dreams have been resolved (and many other games across several platforms) with the wonderful world of emulation. I still have the Saturn, though, and I don't intend on selling it.

I began systematically reseting all the ratings for each game I gave one to, and you know what? I really wish I could reset them all with one click, instead of this click, click, back, click, click, back (repeat forever o_o)....

Is this game more prone to data corruption than any other PS1 game, or is it just my third party memory card?

It seems to be caused by the in-game reset, which has never before corrupted data for every one of my other Square games, inlcluding Final Fantasy Origins, Final Fantasy Chronicles, Final Fantasy Anthology, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Vagrant Story, for the seven years that I've been using them. I've had to restart a game of FF9 the other day because this already happened, and it's always after I use the in-game reset. I was just playing FF6 on FF Anthology yesterday, and used the standard Square in-game reset ability on that several times without the data being corrupted, but it's happened twice now with FF9.

I've been playing PS1 games since 2000, and I have never once had the issue of corrupted data on a memory card. My data has always been reliable, and safe. The only argument against this theory is that the new memory card I'm now using is a third party card I've ported all the data from those aforementioned games onto from the official Sony one that I was previously using for the last eight years. That could be the cause, but then how do you explain new FF6 data working perfectly on it?

So, is there anyone else who can confirm this issue? Has anyone else been having similar problems with their FF9 copies?

I've got two games which you might be (and other Saturn fans) interested to play, and might not have heard of. Although, I very much think that you will.

Silhouette Mirage & Sexy Parodius

They both look awesome, and if I can acquire the imports, I very much will.

Although, there's a PS1 version of Silhouette Mirage, which I should probably shoot for instead. I'd want to get the unreleased-to-the-States Saturn version since I know the Saturn doesa much better job of handling 2D games than the PS1 does. Although, I'd also want to get the PS1 version because I'd be interested to read/hear the silly dialogue, and it would all be in Japanese if I got the import. I own Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Mega Man X4, on the PS1, and they both have Saturn versions; so why not have Silhouette Mirage, too? Right? Supposedly, the Saturn version of 'Symphony' is superior for having two extra areas, and another "Familiar," but I'm content with my PS1 version. Now, I don't know if MMX4 is better on the Saturn, or not. THAT is something you could tell me.

Also, what is wrong with Marvel Superheroes? That game is loads of fun.
