I looked at Folding Home, but could someone clear it up for me and tell me what it is. I was going to put it on, but wasn't sure what it was or does.RMANPOWER

Go here for all the info you need right from the source. http://folding.stanford.edu/

Our goal: to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

You can help by simply running a piece of software.
Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. Folding@home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that now while running folding@homethe hard drive light constantly flashes, before it only flashed every few minutes now it just keeps flashing like crazy non stop while running Folding@home. I disabled music thinking that might be the cause but that didn't stop it. Is this program going to wear out the HDD sooner if it is always writing to the drive now? I take it this is happening with everyone running the new version of folding at home right? It also crashed the 1st time I started it I had to hold down the power button to force the PS3 to turn off but it's running just fine now.

Update the constant flashing has stopped after letting the program run for around 10min and the hard drive light has stopped flashing constantly and has returned to only blinking about once every minute or so just like it was before. Thank god.

I have a question, i never noticed before, but my light stays on while the ps3 is on standby and it flashes pretty much all the time when it is on or when im playing online or a game or whatever... is this normal? I have the 60gb and i have had it since christmas of last year.

forgot to say, cool update, ill probably start folding again when im not using the ps3 to play games

From What I know the hard drive light flashes when the hard drive is being accessed in any way read or wright, so it should be common while playing games listening to music surfing the web, downloading from the internet or PSN or whipping through your MPS or video list etc... Anything that would cause the PS3 to read and write to the drive. But if your at the XMB and not downloading anything or touching anything it shouldn't be very active. The WiFi light is right next to the Hard Drive light so make sure your not getting the 2 confused, because if your PS3 is connected by a wireless router expect to see that light flashing often thats just normal.

Yeah I have been folding for a while now my PS3 has completed somewhere between 290 or 300 units so far.jimm895

Yeah I have been folding since it came out back in march I have 760 units so far. I never turn off my PS3 when I'm not playing games listening to music or watching videos it's folding like crazy. I don't have to pay for hydro so what the hay lol.

I also exited out of folding@homeand started it up again and the flashing harddrive light returns, So I timed it and it stopped after 12 minutes, I wonder why it does that now???

Mine is folding now while I'm watching TV and the HDD light hasn't flashed all evening. It did stay busy for a little while in the begining but it settled down after a while.

Cool so it looks like we both experienced the same thing so it must be a normal thing. I would have stopped folding if I had to see that light flashing all the time lol.

I haven't played Assassins Creed yet, as for Uncharted Deamonized people isn't Sci-fi thats horror. And when your dealing with Ancient lost civilizations it's not that big a surprise to see.

Nope I liked it, made the game creepy for the last part. It wasgreat. Kind of like the Deamons in Raiders of the lost ark didn't ruin the movie either. It is just a game. We all have different tastes. Did make the game feel alot different though.

WTF! Sony! Along with firmware 2.0 they manage to remove the vertical black bars on the left and right side of LCD/PLASMA TV's that was great but then they messed up the smoothing option so you had to turn it off that sucked. 2.01 come out and guess what Sony fixes the up-scaling again so with smoothing on the games look great again, but those !^%#ing Vertical Black bars are back. Why the heck can't they get it to do both. Stupid PS2 games not using the full SD image area really sucks. Come on SONY wake the &%*# UP!

blazinpuertoroc

the games are in 4:3 resolution..calm down...hook up your ps2 with compononent cables on a widescreen tv and it will be the same

I know that, HDTV's can stretch the 4:3 image to 16:9 but because PS2 games did not use the full SDTV image resolution even after you stretch the image you are left with the thin unused vertical black bars. When 2.0 came out they must have took this into consideration because this issue was gone the PS2 4:3 image stretched to 16:9 had no black barsmy games filled the entire 16:9 screen, but with 2.01 the bars are back. thats what I'm talking about.
