I know this is sort of an old post, but...I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried the same things. Switching between AV or component cables gives me the same problem. So I tried putting the HDMi back in and I'm still having the same problem. It's becoming very frustrating. Any ideas?mysterrockstar

It all started to happen with the recent update that jst came out (2.70).

I was playing fine for like a day or two and then GH: Metallica froze on me :evil:. Not that big of a deal. Then i started it up again and 30 min. into it froze again. Then another try and another and now the game won't even play for 10 min. without it losing its sound and then freezing right before a loading screen. (Black Screen o' Death) as i call it.

I've tried everything to figure out the problem,I even opened it up and took it all apart, and i mean all of it. Cleaned all the dust, checked the circuit board and everything is fine. Then i noticed that every time I play a disc it plays it fine until it overheats.

Now I don't kno why but the fan doesn't speed up when the PS3 needs that extra air to get cooled.

Do I need a new fan? Or do I buy an Inter Cooler? Do I need a BIG ASS Fan?

I already had called SONY but obviously the response was "Send it in to be analyzed for a FEE."

PLEASE HELP!!!!! Really appreciated.

Details: 1.Game freezez but no power light blinking 2. doesn't eject disc. 3.tried it vertical just now and it didn't work. 4. Tried every game i own and only plays for 5-10 min. then freezes. 5. Sometimes it doesn't want to read discs. 6. Right before it enters into a loading screen, it goes into the black screen of death. 7. Feels very HOTand heats incridebly fast like a MOFO 8. My PS3 is the 80GB Model with the 4 USB ports in front, and has the memory card reader compartment.

I think that you have a bad cable I had a problem a while back and found that the HDMI was slightly pulled out on one corner and afther pushing it back into the socket firmly everything has been perfect. If you using component cables then the Sony brand seem to work much better and they cost about the same as the cheap cables on the market. jimm895
