My Review: Sonic Gems

Only for the dedicated, hardcore Sonic fans and those that love old school gaming. Sonic Gems is basically similar to Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the Playstation 2. It is a game that has a collection of classic Sonic games and tons of bonus content, like extra hidden games.

What makes this different from Collections is the games on offer, you get mega drive and game gear games to play but all are very rare ones. Like Sonic CD, I never played it before but thanks to this game I had the opportunity to play such a rare and wonderful game.

The games are nicely presented with all the games having save capabilities so you no longer have to spend 5 hours straight trying to beat a game, instead you can save your progress. Difficulty is varied depending on the game, the Sonic fighting game is quite hard but the racing game Sonic R is actually very easy, so overall the difficulty is varied. Graphics can be nice for some games, they all bright and colourful but when you look at the system they were released on you will realise that for its time the graphics gameplay and sound were all very good.

While classified as poor by todays standards this game is a piece of gaming history that you will love and you should be able to find it cheap first hand. I actually managed to find it for only £9.99.

My Review: Final Fantasy X

A break from the tradition of past Final Fantasy games which is both good and bad.

Final Fantasy X is quite old now, number XI is already out and XII will soon be released but that does not mean in any way that you should avoid this game. It still looks impressive to this day.

First of all if you never played Final Fantasy then do not worry, every Final Fantasy game has a new setting, story and characters so you do not have to play the previous games to understand the story here. The story is a simple one but very emotional, it starts of with a super star called Tidus who gets transported 1000 years into the future. You decide to join a summoner (People who can summon creatures to help in battles) in hope that along the way you can somehow get back home. Along the way though some very interesting changes to the story will happen and the plot has always been a strong point of the Final Fantasy games.

FFX is different from the previous games, you can not fly an airship around the world, here you simply select a destination. Also, you can not actually travel by anywhere you want on the world like previous games. This is bad, there is not much freedom to explore, you simply got town A and town B and a simple path to take to the next town.

The gameplay is still fun though but sadly the end boss of the game is far to easy, infact it is impossible to die for some reason. However if you want a challenge you can take part in the Monster Arena side quest, this is where powerful creatures are breed for you to fight, this is where the real challenge lies. There are also tons of little mini games to play, you can learn a whole different language and actually go hunting for the powerful celestial weapons so while there is not much to exlore, there is still plenty to do.

The sound is a bit wierd, well voice acting. There have been a couple of moments where it seems like the voice actors have no idea what is happening. For example, in one temple a character is next to another and is shouting like he is far away. But that is minor, the soundtrack is fab, the battle tune really gets you in the mood of fighting, the sad tunes actually make you feel sad so the sound manages to pull you into this game and make it feel so real which is pretty amazing. Voice acting can sound a bit poor at times though but only slightly.

Finally I will talk about the graphics, they are bright and cheary. Most of the locations you visit are like paradise. Clear blue skies, calm oceans, bright green grass. The magical Macalania Woods are amazing also, but you have to see it yourself to be amazed. The common characters you meet are varied, depending where you are they might have a different style. In Besaid people wear shorts or loose skirts in the hot weather but in Luca you get tons of different cultures which is no surprise in a shipping port. At Home you get the Al Bhed who wear futuristic looking clothes. So it seems this game not only is fun but has created a very realistic world with different cultures, sights and sounds to hear.

At the end of the day wether you played Final Fantasy before I suggest you just go ahead and buy this game, there are a few problems but they minor and do not get in the way of fun. Give it a go and you will not be dissapointed.

My review: Tomb Raider Legend

A wonderful return of Lara Croft that will leave you wanting so much more. Well, I have recently just completed the game, fantastic. Thats what I would say if I had to write a one word review. For those familiar with the Tomb Raider games you will be pleased to hear that controlling Lara has become much more easier and fun. Since Crystal Dynamices (Gex, Legacy of Kain) took over from Core they completely changed the gameplay. Lara does not have to do a short run up to jump anymore, the places you visit are not so blocky and are now much more realistic. This is because the grid based system is now gone.

The length of this game depends on wether you are someone who loves obtaining 100%, if not then you will be dissapointed by how short this game is. Amzingly short, infact the last level can easily be done in under 5 minutes. However if you wish to obtain everything then you will find yourself exploring levels over and over again to find hidden relics or you might choose to do the time trial. Doing so unlocks quite an impressive amount of content. There is artwork, bios, object models, pistol upgrades, a massive amount of costumes and quite a bit more. So there is a reason to replay this game again and again.

Combat is quite fun, theres nothing tricky about it, you simply carry two weapons at a time, up to 4 grenades and can do some unarmed combat. Like kicking, rolling into an enemy, jumping on his head the shooting him as you land, jump kick an enemy. However this is easy, even on my first playthrough at hard difficulty I rarely had troubles. The real challenge does not lie in the puzzles either. Sometimes it will be hard to figure out what to do but very rarely. The real challenege simply lies in obtaining 100%.

As for the story, well it is an interesting one. Usually in games the story is straight forward or one with some twists thrown in. This is different, it seems to be about 3 seperate stories that are all connected with each other. I will not go into to detail, but its about a famous myth, an incident in Lara's childhood and another incident that happened 3 years ago. The story is pretty interesting, got a bit complicated at times and is confusing at the begining, I thought I might have miised something because it was so confusing. It clears up later with no plotholes at all and is a nice story.

Unlike Lara's previous game, this one returns to raiding tombs. You will travel all over the world to Peru, Ghana, Antartica, basically exotic locations mostly. And they all look really good. I was so surprised with the graphics of this game, at first I was a bit sad this willl not be on the PS3 but now that I have seen what it looks like I am impressed. They fabulous, I can not find words to express how amazing they are but I will say it is much better in gameplay than on screenshots.

Everyone wants to know about sound, well you get a great soundtrack that in some tracks is really cultural, like the main theme you hear on the main menu. Sound effects are great and make the game feel amazing just as much as the graphics, you also have two buddies that talk to you by ear piece. Zip (From Tomb Raider Chronicles) and a newcomer called Alister. They rarely help but its fun to hear them chatter, plus it makes the game more fun to hear some funny talk instead of just constantly listening to Lara's footsteps.

All in all, this review comes to an end, I recommend you get this game even if you know nothing about Tomb Raider. The only bad point I can think of is that the story mode was to short, but everything else is great.

My hair and facial hair is just like Naked Snake!

I do not bother to shave in the holidays and now I ended up looking like the man! How cool is that, I thought "**** it, I am to lazy to shave" and now all I do is sneak round the house constantly, I avoid my family and make missions for myself like *Get from your room on the 2F to the kitchen in the 1F and find suitable food*

Have you ever done that? Where there is no need but you just stealth and try to avoid everyone you know!?

I done it! I got FOXHOUND ranking.

I finally got it on Metal Gear Solid 3, this is my biggest achievment ever. I did it on extreme difficulty, doing it on European extreme makes no difference though since the only difference is that it is game over when you are seen.

Just so happy I felt I had to mention it on my blog! :D

Time 3:30:23

1 health bar worth of damage and seriously injured 5 times

There are more details but these are the best ones in my opinion.

Is it possible Ocelot works with Snake shortly before MG1?

On my road to FOXHOUND I had a practice run (Results were good, I am much better than I thought) now there are three microfilms containing the philosphers legacy.

One is with Ocelot, he hands it over to a higher up to start the "new government" as he called it, second is a fake with EVA, she takes it to China. Then there is a third one, while Snake listens to the recording left by EVA he holds a third micro film.

I always wonder what this is, another fake or the real thing? Well Ocelot mentions he only recovered part of the legacy at the end of the credits, and believes the KGB has the other part, however I feel that is not true and he is wrong, Snake has the other part. Given to him by his mentor The Boss.

It was sometime during the 70s when Ocelot recovered the rest, did he steal it from Snake, possible, but I think that maybe Snake forms a truce with Ocelot, either hands it to Ocelot or gets Ocelot to work with him to create outer heaven while secretly being used by the patriots.

This might sound far fetched and I know there is not a lot to go on, infact maybe it is impossible for this to happen, but I feel like it could be true and hope such a thing could be explained in Metal Gear Solid 4, since it looks like to me that the story will revolve in some way around Big Boss.

Start a fresh page.

Tried this whole blog thing before, went terrible. Infact I never had anything decent to post, I suppose I should post game reviews here, mine of course.

EDIT: Wait, I created a blog I know, but how do I do it? I wanna make another one, please help.

RE-EDIT: Forget it, I figured it out.
