I don't give a crap if ignorant people decide to judge an entire genre from ohne artist they see on TV. If I went by the same standards I'd be judging Rock, the entire genre, upon an One Republic video. That kind of attitude is simpy absurd and if you are a fan of music you'd know not to jump to conclusions on an entire genre, based on what little it presented to you by mainstream media.

I don't make those kinds of judgements. I used to be into hip-hop/rap heavily back in the late 80s/early 90s. My ear has always been firmly planted on the street. The quality of almost all hip-hop has degraded. Talented acts are far and few between these days. It's actually quite disappointing, since I used to be such a big hip-hop guy.

I didn't outgrow it either, because the old hip-hop still pleases me to this day. It's just that all the new stuff can't even compare. It's mostly rambling nonsense these days, rapping about unimportant/frivilous matters. Hip-hop has let me down. :(

But rap actually does suck - nowadays. It used to be good, but since almost everyone here wasn't alive when rap was good, you can't blame them for thinking it all sucks.

Rap doesn't suck nowadays.

It certainly is harder to find quality Hip-Hop but to say it sucks is a diservice to the effort contemporary rappers and producers put into creating excellent Hip-Hop, of which there certainly is a lot out there.

Who wants to go digging all the time? Maybe these "underground" hip-hop artists who are so great should be pushing their music a little harder - especially if it really is better. Because if it's better, people would take notice, and all the crap polluting the airwaves might actually go away for good. So, they must not be that great.
