I don't care any more if I get a warning and/or moderated: Here is a big fat FUK YOU Bethesda! Why don't you marry XBOX? Elder Scrolls were made for and consequentially made big by PC. Now you get to sh!t down the PC gaming community just for a buck. I really am starting to HATE this money driven world. Games were once made for gamers, not for the industry. Obviously this is absolutely no longer the case. All hail the almighty Dollar!
DLC's are a plague. This article describes perfectly what is happening to games these days because the game devs need to milk you for every penny you've got. I don't mind DLC's that add a gun, armor or something similar- that is nothing that can have a major impact on the story, but addons like the above mentioned "Arrival" & "The Shadow Broker" are crucial to the narrative and should have been included in the game itself. The most horrible thing about it all is the fact that Mass Effect has one of the best storylines in the games out there and should have been treated with respect by the developers. Imagine if the bestseller novels were published incomplete and you needed to purchase additional page or two for an extra couple of $ if you want to be kept in the loop! I must also express my disgust with introduction of James Vega, because of ALL the ME characters he is the ONLY ONE introduced in the manner: "this is your new best buddy, deal with it". Every other relevant character was introduced through encounters & storytelling. For Christ's sake, even Conrad- a completely irrelevant character to the ME story makes his way into the game with more background than this Vega guy. Conrad appears in all 3 games if you help him! And he is a Shepard Fanboy! Nothing more! Thank you for this article. I know now I am not alone in being sick & tired of this money-milking process that threatens to eradicate the proper game storytelling.
"That Mass Effect's multiplayer mode and transition from RPG to shooter happened for creative reasons instead of financial ones. ... That there's a good reason to bring back X-COM and Syndicate as first-person shooters." -Two key sentences.
Kevin VanOrd, I disagree. Not enough space in the comments for me to even begin. I'll leave it at that, and skip reading any other possible "Why it matters" articles. Good day!
I think the Reapers deserve much more credit. The Sovereign's / Nazara's manipulation of Saren and the whole idea of indoctrination is a pretty unique trick. The reaper's are subtle, devious force, that suddenly explodes upon the galaxy. They are maybe not the most evil of villains, but IMHO are really a mysterious entity.
Yay! The drawback: buying- 1. New OS 2. New motherboard 3. New CPU 4. New RAM 5. New GPU 6. (directX11) New Sound Card How many $$$ would I need? Would my kidney cover the expenses?
