Even if you used a proxy they could still find out your ip through your cache, cookies or plugins that load content directly rather than going through the proxy (eg, flash).One could surely disable scripts, clear one's history and delete one's cookies. If the mods knew anything about anything they would have most public proxies' IPs banned, along with large p2p vpn networks.
