DotA 2 is the future of e-sports. It's going to become huge. Teamliquid, a traditionally Stracraft oriented community, and one of the largest and more serious progaming portals on the net, added DotA 2.

As an avid user of Team Liquid, this announcement made my day. If they can successfully promote DotA2 as they have with SC2 (appealing community hub, tournament coverage and hype, interviews etc.) I think we are in for something special.
DotA2 International 2 has been amazing so far showcasing some godly plays. It is the only esport that interests me besides Starcraft 2 and I am loving the support Valve is giving to the game esports wise.
I have been playing DotA for a long time (dating back to WC3 RoC) and the game is quite incredible. It does have a bit of a learning curve (especially with the number of heroes currently available) but do not let that deter you. Word of advice, find people to play with as this game becomes depressing sometimes when continually playing solo.
