[QUOTE="mingo123"]MS is releasing new compression technology next year to compress data on DVD9 better then before.....so yeah Blu-Ray aint neededEricvon71
So is that your professional opinion or fanboy opinion???
I've heard about this new compression style/technology too. It's common sense really. IfMS can compress their data better to fit more on the DVD9, then a more disk space won't be necessary and therefore they won't need BluRay for "larger" games. How was that a fanboy remark?
Although this doesn't mean that BluRay is generally not needed. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are clear indications that games are starting to reach a point where the standard formats can no longer contain entire games. Like back when the FF 7 8 and 9 and Legend of Dragoon were on multiple disks. Other games didn't take up as much space at the time, but they do now, that and more. I think what we are seeing now is a repeat of that. So what we need this gen is the ability to store more data. And BluRay is a means to that end. But it is also just one route. When something gets full you can either move up to a bigger container(bluray), or find a way to pack the smaller container more efficiently.(New compression method) So while BluRay may not be our only saving grace this gen when it comes to the disk space issue, it is one solution to the problem and is, therefore stilla sufficient solution, but not necessary.
