Not everybody buys used games a month after they come out from GS. People buy from private sellers, they can buy like 5 months later for much cheaper.Sepewrath
Well like I said, if you're getting the game that cheaply, even with the extra $10 it's still cheaper than new. But also, like I mentioned in the other thread: I'm not happy with this whole thing, I just thing it's being blown slightly out of proportion. And I do agree that if it's accepted, certain publishers with probably try to push it too far.

Well, with Netflix (or similar service) as an example, they pretty much have to carry everything, because the draw of those services is the selection. People are less likely to sign up for a service with less available.

And let me say: it's not like I'm all for this, I'd obviously prefer if it didn't happen, I just don't understand why everyone is so worked up about it.

Yes it is. I just pray this backfires on them because if it dosent were all screwed.

How are we all screwed?

You buy a game new, everything is the same. Buy a game used, pay a one time $10 fee for online. Still cheaper than buying it new. How is that so bad?

What this is really fighting against is used games priced $5 dollars or so less than the brand new versions.

The used game market can easily counteract this, this will likely do more damage to the new game market than the used game market. Sepewrath
How?

[QUOTE="Sepewrath"] The whole sale price is the full price of the game, the price is increased by retailers so that they make money in the sale as well. If they sold it for what they bought it for, they wouldn't make a dime. I recommend you watch Pach Attack over on GT.

Believe me, I'm aware of how retail works. I meant the total going to the publisher was the wholesale price of the game. You were implying that they somehow got the full price of the game twice.

Yeah, two individual sales adding up to the wholesale price of the game - not two full price sales.

Yes they do, because they have already sold the game twice, once to the retailer and once to the first consumer.

Sepewrath
What? That's not how it works...

I'm assuming it's a one time charge. I've never heard anything said about it being a monthly fee.

Really? Is that why single player games with absolutely no multiplayer functionality whatsoever cost the same as games with strong multiplayer components?creeping-deth87
No, it's not. I'm just saying, if you bought the game new, money has gone from you to the developer or publisher to maintain the servers. If you bought it used, it hasn't gone from you to the developer or publisher. Sure, the money from the person who bought it new did, but assuming they used the online functionality, you have two people using the servers for the price of one.
