Contrary to most here, I've loved the whole series save for 64. Melee was the very first game I ever bought with GameCube, which is the first console I ever bought. I also bought two more controllers so my younger brothers could play with me. Every Friday night we'd get home from school, toss our book bags and play Smash until we couldn't stay awake any more. I had certainly seen the commercials for the original Smash, but I didn't play it until a couple years after I bought my GC and Melee. The game oozes with charm, but the leap in gameplay between 64 and Melee is painfully obvious and just makes 64 a chore to play. I loved Brawl for all the focus on single player content. Subspace Emissary was absurd, well-designed and a lot of fun, and I loved the sticker system as it added both depth to the gameplay and another excuse for Nintendo to jam even more characters in there. U/3D has been my favorite by far, though. Portable Smash was long overdue, and I love how the 3DS and Wii U versions had a number of version exclusive stages, though I wish they'd done the same with characters as I'd really hoped to see Golden Sun characters on the 3DS version. I also love the Mii fighters. They aren't anything amazing in terms of balance and tiers, but I've always, always loved being able to create characters, and the wealth of in-game and DLC costumes as well as customization options from the Mii creator made that a ton of fun to mess with. I'm just hoping that this is a brand new entry, though I'm sorely tempted to finally pick up a Switch even if it's just a port as I want the already confirmed new characters and I want to see how Link's moveset has changed now that he's been updated the Breath of the Wild version.
@YohanDeEmercer: I don't care about him being dead. I just hope that they spend some time next movie explaining who the **** he was. I feel like they'll have Ben look into him so as to take on his best aspects and maybe try to avoid his biggest pitfalls as the new Supreme Leader. Or at least I hope that's how they'll do it. If that doesn't happen then we'll probably get yet another lackluster book on the topic in the new EU.
That would be a catastrophic mistake. Having her parents be nobody made her her own unique entity instead of being yet another endless link in the Skywalker saga. Leave it be.
@Mlee6659: You're absolutely right about the indie scene, man. The only major company left that gives a shit about anything is Bethesda, and even they are stuck in a rut right now. They can't seem to stop releasing Skyrim. Hell, even Fallout 4, much as I loved it, was basically a sci-fi themed Skyrim mod. These indie teams consist mostly of young guys who haven't been tainted by the industry or old guys who are fed up with the bullshit that comes with the triple-A mentality. They know what gamers want, but more importantly they're true to their own visions. Granted, this hasn't always turned out great, but it's still yielded far more interesting and lovingly crafted games than anything EA has churned out in decades.
@bumpyface: Input delay isn't that bad at all on XB1. The servers were definitely a bit chunky, though. I played online just long enough to get the rest of the achievements but I didn't bother going back to it after that...though that lag did help me win a tournament match and royally piss off a guy who seemed to think he was in an EVO bracket.
Not quire sure how I feel about the hit effects, but this looks stunning. Tekken 7 washed the bad taste of SF V out of my mouth, and now I'm ready for dessert. I've been waiting for this for years.
It's about fucking time on Soul Calibur VI. They'll probably never get IV or V onto the backward's compatibility list due to licensing issues with the guest character, and, while I love II, it wears thin in a hurry without the character creation. I'm gonna hit my GS today and throw a preorder at it.
