Spend time each week actively trying indie games out -- you'll find dozens of gems each year.
The worst offender I've ever seen was Dying Light 2. Case study on what NOT to do.
...which spawned from Dead Island 1 -- a great example of how to do it correctly.
The only time it's appropriate is when you know you have such an obvious smash hit incoming, that you know you'll attract non-gamers into the mix Hogwart's Legacy is such a game, and even then the tutorial is expertly folded into story setup that's as good as the films.
(This is what Dying Light 's team thought they were doing too, but their story, writing, and acting are all TERRIBLE.)
