Enjoy! Videoblog tomorrow.
I don't think you GameSpot guys know this, but my grandmother passed away about a week ago, and today was the day I went to the funeral. That was probably the worst thing I've ever had to experience in my life. The ceremony itself was beautiful, and I was glad about the fact that I helped carry the coffin in to the hearse that was waiting; it just felt like the proper goodbye. So yeah, she might not be here in person anymore, but she will always be in my heart.
Incase you haven't noticed, I've got my Internet connection back. I wish I could say that I got Battlefield: Bad Company to celebrate, but the store was closed, so, obviously, I didn't get it. And I can't get it tomorrow, because all the stores are closed on Sundays, so I guess I'll just have to settle for the games I have at the moment. Uncharted's trophies should keep me entertained for a while. I played for about 10 minutes after I downloaded the trophies, but I haven't actually got any trophies, so I have to work on that. I'll also be playing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and FIFA '08. So yeah, I'm not exactly short on games to play.
Yeah, I'm staying. Even a day without GameSpot was too much.
So, I'm back.
I've decided to make the switch over to Giant Bomb. GameSpot will always hold a special place in my heart, but this website has taken a turn for the worst lately. And Giant Bomb is pretty much what GameSpot felt like during the glory days, and it just feels more "authentic" in a sense, because it doesn't feel like a corporate-controlled website, and it just allows more freedom. For example, I can swear as much as I like without worrying about getting modded. And the whole Wikipedia section of the website is absolutely amazing.
Anyway, I hope you can understand why I'm leaving GameSpot and switching to Giant Bomb. It's not because of you guys; I just like Giant Bomb better.
So, for the last time:
Peace,
Casper.
Giant Bomb has launched, and it is pretty awesome. At first, the website's layout looked messy and not very user-friendly, but after I watched the tutorial video Jeff Gerstmann put up, I'm digging the site's layout a whole lot more. I still don't like the way your profile looks, though; it all feels cluttered and messy. Still, I'm looking forward to the site in its glory. As to whether or not I'¨m leaving GameSpot, I will continue to post on GameSpotand then Copy/Paste them over to Giant Bomb. Why? Because GameSpot is my home, and nothing can change that. Well, if all you guys go over there, that is.
If you want to add me, please do.

Aside from all of this Giant Bomb business, some stuff worth blogging about has actually happened. I went to see Kung Fu Panda last night. That movie is pretty ****in' funny. I had to watch it with a Danish dub, because we had two small kids with us, but it was still pretty funny. The movie is a bit short, though, but I guess that's understandable, since it is a movie targeted towards kids. I think the runtime was about 70 minutes or something.
Blockbuster is where I'm going to buy my games from now on. I went in there a couple of days ago to buy myself a game. I ended up buying two games for one game's price: FIFA '08 and The Bourne Conspiracy. I haven't played any of those games yet, since I am at my dad's place, but I'll post some quick impressions when I get home. I'll also do a review when IU complete them. Maybe not for FIFA '08 as I don't know how I'm going to review it, but The Bourne Conspiracy is definite review.
Well, I have to end this now. My dad is driving over to one of my friends' place, and we're going to watch Hancock at the movies tonight. I can't wait.
Peace,
Casper.
Words can't describe how awesome it feels to have the full use of my right arm again. I can do everything I couldn't do before: I can play games properly again, I can write properly and I can type properly When the doctors removed the bandages and stuff, I was rather surprised by how gross my arm looked; it was completely yellow and two giant hooks were sticking out of my wrist. It certainly gave me a little shock when I saw my arm for the first time in five weeks. When the doctors said they were going to remove the metal in my arm without any form of drugs, I instantly became a bit nervous. And with good reason, because it hurt like a *****. They basically took a pair of pliers and ripped them out, put some band-aids on the wounds and sent me on my way. Regardless of the pain I was in, I'm just glad it's over.
And what did I do to celebrate? I went on a trip with my dad, his girlfriend and her kids to a little summer residence her parents own. It was a living ****ing Hell. Not because of the place or the weather or the things we did, but because of her kids. I swear to God, those kids are the spawn of Satan. Once you have been with them for more than a couple of days, you wish for someone to put a bullet in your brain to end the misery you are in. And I'm not even exaggerating. If my dad's girlfriend didn't get sick, I would still be there. Thank God for the flu. I'm not saying I like the fact that she's sick; I'm just thanking her for saving my sanity.
Now that I'm home, I want to celebrate my arm by getting myself a brand new game. I'm torn between 3 games: Battlefield: Bad Company, FIFA '08 and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. I played the demo of Bad Company, and I thought it was awesome, but I'm not sure how good the single-player campaign is.
I downloaded the demo of FIFA '08, and I also thought it was awesome. Unfortunately, the demo only lets you play one half of a match, and that isn't a lot, but I still thought it was great. I love playing FIFA '07 against my friends, but I don't know how enjoyable the game will be when you're playing alone.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is a game I'm going to get no matter what, because I need a new guitar, and I might as well get the game with it. I'm just wondering: does anyone play it online on the PS3 version? Because Guitar Hero III's online on the PS3 version is pretty much dead, which is a damn shame. Also, are the songs any good? What I've seen so far from YouTube videos looks pretty great, but with 41 songs, I'm not foreseeing a great deal of longevity from the game. Still, I am going to buy it because I need a new guitar; I just want to know the opinions of you fine people before I buy it.
Any feedback as to which game I should get is much appreciated.
Aside from playing games like there's no tomorrow, I've been watching some movies. Specifically, Nicholas Cage movies. Last night I watched 3 Nicholas Cage movies: Con Air, The Rock and Gone in 60 Seconds. Those are some badass movies! The Rock is my favorite out of those three, followed closely by Gone in 60 Seconds. Con Air is still awesome, though. But Nicholas Cage sounds rather... mentally challenged when he's speaking with that southern accent. Not because of the southern accent, but because his accent sounds so forced. But you forget about all that when you hear an awesome guitar solo during a scene with a ****load of explosions in it, and that captures the essence of what an action movie should be: Huge explosions, lots of blood and guts and a badass villain - in this case it's John Malkovich aka Cyrus the Virus.
All in all, you need to see these movies. Maybe not Gone in 60 Seconds, but you need to see The Rock and Con Air. Check out Face/Off too, if you get a chance to watch it. It's awesome.
Well I guess that's it.
Peace,
Casper.
Yup, for these past 5 days I haven't been able to log on to GameSpot, because I went to this little summer residence with my dad, his girlfriend and her kids. Since the place is supposed to be relaxing and a place to get away from everything, there isn't any Internet, and, because of my luck, we went during E3. Bull****. This of course meant I haven't been able to comment and read any of your blogs. I know I have been rather inconsistent this past month or two, but so much **** has happened, and they of course happened at the most awful times. For that I am truly sorry.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know why I haven't been online, and I should be more on GameSpot now.
Peace,
Casper.
I have changed my mind regarding Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, and it has changed because of this. It actually looks really, really awesome. Now, I know I talked smack about the game's T for Teen rating when it was first announced, but after looking at this gameplay footage, it does look brutal enough to carry the Mortal Kombat name. I also think - after looking at the gameplay footage - the T rating helps more than it hurts, because it forces them to be really creative with the fatalities; they have to be brutal enough to be satisfying, but they can't be too brutal, because they want to maintain the T rating.
The Mortal Kombat games have always had weird and practically useless gameplay elements and modes tacked on (Motor Kombat and Chess Kombat says hi), but the new gameplay elements in MK vs. DC actually look pretty serious, and not like some lame add-on they put in for the sake of putting something in. Information is pretty slim at the moment, but it looks like there are two new gameplay elements this time around: Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat.
Freefall Kombat is pretty self-explanatory: once you kick someone through a barrier in the arenas, you will fall down to a different stage in the arena. While you are falling through the air, you get to pummel your opponent, and then use him to cushion your fall. Awesome.
Klose Kombat is a pretty simple, but awesome-looking feature. At any point during the match you can pull your opponent in, headbutt him, break their arms, slam them in the face, etc. Of course, the camera zooms in, so you can get an up-close view of the carnage you are inflicting on your opponent. Awesome.
Right now, 4 characters have been revealed on the MK side, and 4 have been revealed on the DC side: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya and Shang-Tsung on the MK side; Flash, Batman, Superman and Catwoman on the DC side. I could do without Catwoman, but otherwise the characters are great choices, and what you would expect would be revealed at this point. There's going to be about twenty characters, ten on each side, and let's hope there will be downloadable content in the future.
One of the hallmarks of the Mortal Kombat franchise has always been the fatalities. Since MK vs. DC will be T-rated, a lot of people have been wondering if there are going to be fatalities in it. Thankfully, there will be fatalities, but they are, of course, not going to be as brutal as past MK games, so for those of you who had hoped to rip out Batman's spine: I'm sorry. Some of the DC characters will also have fatalities, but it depends on their "personality," if you will; Batman or Superman won't kill anyone if they can avoid it, but a more evil DC character might. The characters that won't kill anyone will have a finishing move of some sort, but it's not going to as brutal as the MK characters of course, so Batman might just tie up someone with his Batarang, while Scorpion might pull someone over with his spear and snap their necks.
The past Mortal Kombat games haven't been technical marvels, but the graphics got the job done. Thankfully, MK vs. DC has gotten a major overhaul in the graphics department. It is still very early in development, but even now the graphics look great: textures are sharp, characters are wonderfully detailed and real-looking and the arenas look great. Animations are a little bit wonky at this point, but that is probably going to be sorted out in the next few months. Another thing that makes the game look great is the overall grittiness the game has. Past Mortal Kombat games have always had a bit of a comical fell to them (toasty!), but MK vs. DC just seems more serious and "mature."
I take back everything I have said before about MK vs. DC. The added focus on a better storyline, the major graphical overhaul and just the overall grit and realism to it is making me anticipate its release in November - just in time for my birthday! Oh, and the fact that you can kick Superman's ass is also pretty appealing. ;)
