yeah, sadly, when i plugged in my Ps3, my hdtv shorted out. so now i have to get a new one

P.S. NEVER buy a tv from OFFICE DEPOT, even if it's really cheap, the warranty process SUCKs, and they're gonna try anything to not replace it for you.

kept the 360, and i picked up the MGS4 bundle, and rachet and clank.
i like it, but man it takes forever to start up a game for the first time.

Also, i loved my HD-DVD player, which, thanks Toshiba, has been rendered useless. Half of me thinks i should hold onto it and scour the earth for cheap HD-DVDs. To only become some elitist, that ten years from now ,brags about his extensive HD-dvd collection at parties and yells at people for not remembering they ever existed. (much like Laser-Disc dorks)

But then again, PS3's got a great Blu-ray player...

Xjner

Thats what ya get for nbeing an early adopter.

the battle could have gone either way though, after researching, i decided to take the gamble, even though i may not agree with the winner, i have to move on...

It's time to have BOTH. I do and don't regret it for a second.

Right now my 360 is collecting dust and my PS3 is getting all the love, though that's mostly because the PS3 still has the new factor. I've only had it for a few months. Once gears2, bioshock 2 and other 360 exclusives come out I will play that for a while.

zaphod_b

i figured i'll pretty much be the same way. and if i don't like it, or if it collects too much dust, like my Wii did, i can always sell it.

[QUOTE="Generic_Dude"]I love my PS3... I only had a 360 for a while, but the unreliability got me to jump ship -- particularly before they announced the DRM fix. It's got BluRay, you get free online and most of the great games on 360 are also available on PS3 (COD4, Orange Box, Oblivion, GTA4 and, soon, Bioshock and Fallout 3)... it's got a few great exclusives (Uncharted, MGS4, Ratchet And Clank and Hot Shots Golf OOB to name a few) with good ones on the way (Final Fantasy being, probably, the biggest). The console is very reliable and does what 360 does.

DOWNSIDES? I think the 360 has a better interface... the dashboard is much neater and better organized than the XMB. Also, Xbox Live Arcades selections blow PSN away -- Lumines, Rez HD, Bomberman Live (though a Bomberman game is supposedly in development). 40gb PS3s don't have backwards compatibility... and many of PS2's games are worth playing still (the Katamari games, a king's ransom of great RPGs, the Dark Cloud or MGS series). If you love achievements, Sony is introducing trophies -- i.e. the same thing -- but not every game will support them. As of right now, one PSN game supports them, but they're patching them into Uncharted, Ratchet And Clank and Burnout Paradise, among others.

Basically, you miss out on a few great things (XBL Arcade and a handful of retail games that, generally, are also available on PC like Mass Effect, Gears or Viva Pinata), but the PS3 won't have to be replaced every 6-12 months.

thegame1980

Pretty decent post, but I'd like to point out I haven't had to replace my 360 at all and I have had it for 2 plus years. It's a bad misconception that ALL 360's get RROD and even though the RROD has been fixed for the past 6 months now Sony fanboys STILL think 360's fail which they don't.

Anyway I have a PS3 and 360 and I do NOT love the PS3. I dispise preinstalling games to make up for the lacking Blu-ray drive. It's a waste of time and HD space. Your points on XBL Arcade and the 360 interface being better are correct. The 360 Dashboard is much better then the sub menu after sub menu of micromangement useless crap that is the XMB. Also updating the firmware every other month is annoying. XBL offers TONS more content in every aspect from arcade games to game content to movies and TV shows. The Blu-ray player is ok but I'm not on the HD movie playback hype train so it really dosen't appeal to me. I have like 300 DVD's and prefer paying less for DVD's to lose a little clarity, but if you enjoy HD movies then the Blu-Ray player is good even tho Walmart offers the CHEAPEST Blu-ray player around now for 280 bucks. So my advice to you is use your check to get the 280 dollar Blu-Ray player from Walmart, and the rest of the money on 360 games and save some for future games or Microsoft points to download movies or TV shows. MGS4 is a great game but not worth the 400 dollar admission. As Generic Dude already stated the BIGGEST games are multiplatform so you won't miss that much this gen like the Grand Theft Autos, The Resident Evils, The Soulcaliburs, The Call of Duty's.

thanks man, posts like this are really helpful.
