Hi I need some arguments about this subject especially arguments against it

which one is better? the amd one cost 180$ and the intel i7 920 cost 300$. I don't really care about the price but it had to be under 500$, but my main worry about amd is people say it overheat a lot. so which one is better for gaming? Oh yeah which one work better with each card nvidia or ati?
