this cracked me up

I once played a game of battleship with my father. When I won he beat me with a garden hose. I still have the scars.

America honors its dead that have fallen in war with several monuments. The Vietnam war memorial is largely apolitical taking no sides but showing the cost of war itself. Japan and Germany raped their way through Europe and Asia...but so did Russia, America and the rest of the allies don't exactly have clean hands either. My question is this. What makes it okay to honor the fallen of ones own country? Is it okay for any country to portray its dead soldiers in a heroic light or should they go the Vietnam war route and only show the cost of war itself? How does losing or winning a war change this? Recently there was outrage over what was called "Confederate history Month" Much of the opposition to this was based on the fact that the war was over protecting the instituion of slavery. However it was not a clean war. Union forces cut a swath of destruction throughout Georgia in what was known as General Sherman's March. Civilan property was destroyed en masse and left thousands without home or food because of the union army's tactics. Japan commited one of the worst crimes of the 20th century during the Rape Of Naking in which thousands of civilians were tortured raped and murdered. Russia in the invasion of Germany commited some of the worst acts of the war. America itself carpet bomed entire cities and is still to this day the only power to ever use nuclear arms in a conflict. Every side has done something wrong in war. Russia, Japan America we all have dirty hands. Does this at any point make it wrong to celebrate said involvment in war? Or is it different for some countries but okay for others?

I wonder if it's terrestrial or gas giant.CRS98
Well a brown dwarf is the middle ground between a gas giant and a true star. I forget the actual number but if Jupiter had about a dozen times its own mass or something along those lines (i'm possibly getting something wrong so don't take my full word) it would become a star.

Rareware was one of the most talented developers out there but I think that started to change when the Stamper brothers left the company or when they were sold to Microsoft. Slowly Rare began to lose its unique "spark" if you know what I mean. The humor in the games was gone and their concepts no longer felt as realized as before. Retro is one of my most respected developers out there and if anyone can handle the Donkey Kong legacy its them. (even though I'm not digging Donkey Kong Country Return's fully 3D models in comparison to the pre rendered sprites of the old games) I wonder how Retro would handle a Star Fox game. I'd like to see their vision.

[QUOTE="RaptorPen"]Feminism isn't a result of World War 2. People have been calling for women's rights for along time I'm afraid. However to be on topic I'm not opposed to the concept of Objectification in and of itself but it is undeniable that there is a discrepency in how men and women are looked at in todays society.Bluestorm-Kalas

Actually WWII was pretty influential to the feminist movement. When the men were shipped out to fight, who do you think worked in the factory's and mills? That was a kick start for the feminist movement.

The same thing happened during the civil war and women of color had been holding down jobs for quite some time prior to WW2

Feminism isn't a result of World War 2. People have been calling for women's rights for along time I'm afraid. If your refering to the how many women worked in the factories during the war the same thing happened during the Civil War. However to be on topic I'm not opposed to the concept of objectification in and of itself but it is undeniable that there is a discrepency in how men and women are evaluated in todays society and with women often times the all or at least the majority of their worth as a human being is along sexual lines.

American prisons are "so messed up" because the prison industrial complex is a corrupt system of evil. The majority of felons in America are incarcirated for drug related offenses and the so called War On Drugs is a way of keeping the beast alive. The prison systems have given America some of its worst violent gangs. Prison rape is considered by many American's to be a form of karmic justice not a gross violation of human rights. As long as this mindset prevails I don't see anything changing soon. Its the huge elephant in the room that nobody wants to face but let me tell you I'd rather spend 5 years in a European jail than a 1 year in an American one.

I don't bother with labels as conservative or liberal. However I am quite well known for my hardline stance on Raptors. (see sig)
