No PS2 games(PS1 is still in there), two less USB slots, and no card readers. Oh, and a matte finish, no gloss.bstarter29

wonder wat it looks like.

No next gen feeling without glowing.

Can it still play PS1 games?
Yes
Uh, does Sony not realize that new PS2 games are still being made? How'm I supposed to play them, then?
How about a PS2 or a 20, 60 or 80 gig PS3
Given that being able to play the entire playstation catalog has been one of Sony's selling points for the PS3, and now this unit comes out which states that it can't play PS2 games, doesn't thsi mean that people who buy the 40GB model then are legally able to sue Sony for false advertisement/bait-and-switch practice? Or are these going to be able to run the games off software?
Show me some sort of contract signed by you and Sony that says your machine would play PS2 games
How would you market something like this, other than just being the new, cheapest BluRay movie player or something?
How about being a game console at a lower price than other SKUs of that console at the expense of some features.

The 60G PS3 is almost out of stock I suppose. Gamestop, Ebgames label it as back ordered online. But 20G is still available though. I am sure glad that I bought a 20G at launch, since I value BC a lot.

Well, you can still buy 80G at 599, or wait until the end of the year for the price cut.

I like 12 alright, more the gameplay than the story...I don't know...Square tried to get too formal with the story this time. I understand it ok but its definitely one of the more boring stories...nothing fantastic about it if you know what I mean...TheSystemLord1

It is about plitical power stuggles, and mixed with a bit of Final fantasy layout. Not too much deep character developments in a way. But it is still a good way to go, for people who like challenging instead of grinding all the way to lvl 99 and beat the final boss by using couple limit breaks.

And Yes I am buying it soon, but I am renting it from Gamefly first, due to the fact I have no time to stop by Gamespot this week. lol

hey guys. i just bought my brother's PS3 along with his 42 inch 1080p lcd. I just hooked up the PS3 and was messing around on it for about 20 min. When i went to turn it off, I felt the back and it was VERY hot. I had the unit upright too. I am very worried that it will overheat or catch fire. Anyone else have problems? possible solutions?mmonte4

As long as your PS3 is not made by Microsoft, it dun need a cooling fan. Just keep it at a place where hot air can spread out normally.

And even if it is made by Microsoft, you dun need a fan either, because it is helpless anywayz.

[QUOTE="Deviltrigger"]

this is simple...who complains about this 40gb and 60gb price cut, means it has already a ps3, those who doesn't have a ps3 yet and had patient and waited time enough for this do happen, i don't doubt that those like me are very happy.

And btw ps3 is 100% compatible with ps1 games and will play ps2 games in the future by software emulation.

grimone01

Well put. And just so that everyone knows.......the 40GB will be able to play approx 85% of ps2 games out of the box and that percentage will increase with futher firmware updates!

Well hope so. But dont be so sure either. All the PS2 emulation hardwares are removed. And SONY has made it clear it is not compatible.

Unless there is other way to work around it, i dun think it is possible.

Well who knows, wait until someone acutally bought a 40G and test its BC.

Take into consideration thatPS2 emulatormay be implemented later via firmware upgrades. Sony never ruled out the possiblity of that but others think otherwise. This actually isn't a bad thing because this means the PS3 community will grow and in turn causes us to have more games because developers will take notice of the growing community and also allows us to have a broader fanbase online to go against. You are lookingat the negatives of this and only looking at this announcement as the glass half empty but I see it the toher way around.

Seriously... When Uncharted,Haze,Folklore,Stranglehold,Ratchet and Clank Future,Jericho,Eye of Judgement, Singstar,Guitar Hero 3,Rock Band,Stranglehold,Simpson Game,Call of Duty 4,Blacksite: Area 51,Army of Two,Assassins Creed,Kane and Lynch,Socom: Confrontation,Timeshift,Orange Box, Time Crisi 4, and so many more games after... when the hell am I going to have time to play an old PS2 game?

da1writer

i totally agree with all ur points.

What concerns me is:

They said 40G is not PS2 compatible. When is the last you heard about this "not compatible" sentence?

When they first removed the EE chips away from the European Models, they didn't say "not PS2 compatible" they said it will be done with firmware.

This time, they say nothing.

The firmware is already done and developed. No extra costs will incur to it if you put it on new models.

The absolute statement made by SONY for non-compatibility will scare some old PS2 users away (who still want to play PS2 games or who love their old collections)

Although Sony did praise backward compatibility, it seems that the majority of the people no longer care for it. It was a big thing from PSone to PS2, and I've got my 60Gig, and play PS2 games occasionally though rarely. This announcement, along with most of Sony's announcements, was completely based on the demands of their massive fanbase.cannibal127-9

I play old PS1 games rarely as well. Only certain big franchise. FF, MG, etc.

But rarely dun mean never. It costs them not that much to install the software on the new model anywayz.
