[QUOTE="PannicAtack"]Because if you liked mainstream music you wouldn't be a hipster.Branmuffin316

What he said.

Am I still a hipster if I listen to bands and artists that were mainstream decades ago?

I'm not one of those people who say that "Rock is dead", because it really isn't. We have many great rock bands today, but the media doesn't promote them as much as they did in the past. So my question is, Why can't the media promote the bands with talent that work hard to make good music, instead of promoting people who have no talent and use autotune to make dance music that all sounds the same to me.

None. I don't listen to mainstream music if I can help it.

Most of my music is in the 60's- 90's range.

-RocBoys9489-

That's a shame, there's plenty of amazing music from the last decade despite some of the more ummm, "questionable" party-esque hip hop music today :P

That is true, but the amazing music from the last decade was not mainstream.

depends, which decade of mainstream music we're talking about here. If it's the 2010's then the answer is none. There is not artist that puts a single shread of talent to good use these days. I hate it all.

I have to say the 70's. Clockwork Orange, Jaws, Dirty Harry, The Warriors, Midnight Express, Star Wars, and the list goes on.

Nirvana? Certainly not, or at least not re: Nevermind. Live they were kind of raw back and far from sounding like old Mr Vigs clean production. Songs played off Bleach certainly resembled their original form though, but again that the album was engineerined far less in comparison.

I think Reading '92 was the closest they were to the studio sound.

unplugged as well

personally I don't care for a band that simply replicates their studio sound - I don't pay to see a gig and listen to what could be an album played through a 50K rig.

poptart

well if a band is close to or better than the album, live, it shows that they actually have talent and that they don't need editing to make them sound good.

Just saw 311 and Sublime w/ Rome and they both sounded nasty.

Dawq902

nasty as in "dude I just drank a 6 pack and I feel nasty, man" or as in "that rotting bird carcus is nasty"
