Youre right. It feels like it was so much longer ago that I was anxiously waiting in line at best buy freezing my testes off. And I'm way too preoccupied with this morning with work to have looked it up (seriously, I don't have time to google something as I sit here reviewing stats from yesterdays football games and play battlefield 3 all at the same time :P), but in all honesty the last time I turned on my PS3 was when SOCOM 4 was released (which was followed by the hack/shutdown not even 3 days later). I remember my friends and I initially swtiching from PSN to XBL because XBLG subscribers got early access to GTA IV dlc (atleast I think, I could be wrong about that and have it backward).Nonetheless, I remember vividly the problems that constantly surrounded PSN and at the time PSHome was new and we all know what that experience was like, so yeah, my perception of PSN now reflects what I seen years ago of it and is negatively effected by Sony sending great ideas (such as the SOCOM series and PSHome) down the drain.
advertising? thats a great point you make, btw. however, this isnt exactly a case of what it costs to maintain XBL. Be honest, PSN has not been on par with XBL until recently (last 2 years). The vast majority of Gold subscribers have (more or less) been grandfathered in, choosing to stay because A. most if not all of their friends use XBL or B. it just isn't in their budget to buy a new PS3 or build a PC (or a combination of the two). I don't agree with Microsoft charging for XBL now and never did, but realize that the cost is so little and pair it with the fact that PSN didn't get off to a ideal start. The next-gen will be interesting to see how this is handled, but for right now my friends are all on XBL and I have more than enough means to pay the subscription fee
I agree. I actually forsee sony joining microsoft and microsoft raising its prices.Tom puts forth a valid arguement and writes a decent article, he just doesn't seem to see the other side of it. Ok, Sony's PSN service is on par with Microsoft NOW, I agree with that. But seriously, it took them like 8 years to do so. I still have my 60g PS3 I bought at best buy at a midnight release party (which is +1 to sony because I'm on my 3rd 360 due to red rings and other hardware problems) I remember what the service was like the first 5 years (it was horrible). I'm glad they finally brought it to par, but come on PSN fanboys, you HAVE to admit it took them way too long. Either way, I think we can all agree, no matter our opinion, that having services like PSN and XBL (finally) rivaling each other is great for gamers as a whole.
@thebeachguy90 ...straighten my facts? How about you learn to read. I NEVER said credit card information was stolen. But, and here is a fact, FOR 2 MONTHS I was worried my information was obtained by somebody I didn't authorize to have it.
Not to mention, you are correct, I do not have "A" PS3, actually, I own 2 ps3's. And yes, the updates have slowed over time, however, my 360 and PS3 both update from the same connection. The updates for the PS3 take way longer, always have. I'm not saying updates are bad, but the reason why SONY puts out more updates than Microsoft is because Microsoft has little to update (they got it RIGHT the first time).
My point about paying is A. ALL of my friends use XBL and have been doing so for 6+ years. B. 5 bucks a month is lunch money. If you can't afford it, then you have some serious problems managing your finances. C. I have all of Skyrim's DLC D. XBL has never shut their service down for a 2 month period. E. I'll take HALO and GEARS over Uncharted and PSHome (lmao) anyday.
If you're looking for stronger competition and a higher amount of people playing, you won't have any problem setting 5 bucks a month aside. Not to mention, I don't have to fear my credit card information being stolen or the service I use shutting down for what was it, 2 months? Sony updates way too frequently and the updates take forever. XBL rarely updates and takes half the time PSN updates take. Yeah, I think i'll just set 20 quarters I get back in change over the period of a month aside and pay for the better service.
please just tell us that ray liotta is doing the voice-over. it doesnt even have to be tommy vercetti (even though that would be BAD ASS!). I just want to know that ray liotta is doing the voice over, it would make me THAT much more excited.
If R* were to perform extra development, extra manufacturing and extra shipping on GTA V for the WiiU, they would certainly lose money in the process. Look, believe what you want, but history tells us that any core 3rd party game released on any nintendo console since the 64 does not sell well. Take-Two has guaranteed money, and a LOT of it, in releasing for only the 360 and PS3. I'm sorry fanboy, but if you want GTA V, you better have a 360/PS3 or one badass rig that will allow you to play a PC port.
@Tazzman1000 I fully understand the point he is trying to make, and actually have no problem with it at all. It's how he manages to find a way to make people look bad, almost like he purposely looks down his nose at them and expects you to join him. That is more disrespectful than me calling him a bad journalist. He's extremely rude and has a certain cockyness in his words that makes him sound so much better than he is, and too many people buy into it. As for Seb and Jane, I can live without. But word to Danny O, if I do decide to come back it will be because of him.
@RaddaRaddaRadda @Rocthepanther89 My goal was never to be the hero of gamespot, rather to help make others aware of this "journalist's" hypocrisy and maybe help halt his articles in the process. Either way, as I said, this is it for me. I'm done with him and in turn I'm done with gamespot. To IGN it is for me, now I can finally get real gaming news and not some punk's twisted backward views. Peace
