I just opened up my computer for the 1st time!! *excitment*!

I have always been afraid to open it up. I always thought I would end up breaking or accidentally touching something that would mess up my whole system. But since I am ordering a few new parts for my PC ( a Apollo Geforce FX5700LE 128mb PCI graphics card and 512MB's of Corsair RAM and maybe a new PSU) I was pretty much forced to open it and learn about it.

So I unplugged all the wires then grabbed a phillips screw driver and some newspaper (to take away the static charge) and I began to open it. I took out the screws and popped open the side panel and in front of me was my 1st real glimpse at the inside of a computer. I was so happy I finally got it off my chest.

Then I saw all the dust that was in my computer, it was an embarassment. There must have been 5 pounds of dust. So I grabbed some compressed air and a hand towel paper and began cleaning it out. I cleaned off the heatsink, the motherboard the PSU, my 3 PCI slots and basically wiped down the rest of it and anything else that had dust on it. My PC still has some dust in it (which I couldnt seem to get out). Im happy I finally got all that dust out of it.

The main reason I had to open it was because I was ordering some computer parts.

I am now much more confident in my abilitys to install my new video card and RAM and maybe (if I get it) my new PSU. I studied the PCI slots and installed the card in my head. I basically imagined the steps I would take to install it. I did the same for the memory and PSU.

I remember when I 1st tryed to open up the side panel to get inside the computer I couldnt get the side panel to slide off... thats how long its been since its been moved. It was basically stuck so I had to use my screw driver to kind of pry up the sides and un-stick it. Then I slid it off... actually I to kind of force it off. Thats how stuck it was.

Overall I learned a lot today and i'm very proud of myself... i'll be even more proud when I actually install the video card and RAM. However i'm still a little bit un-sure about installing the PSU myself. I might let Best Buy install that for me.

thx for reading :)

Nintendo Revolution

Nintendo Revolution

The Nintendo Revolution is a new console currently being developed by Nintendo. This new console was 1st revealed to the world by Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata, On stage at Nintendo's pre-E3 2004 press conference. The world was shocked by this announcment as it completely took them by surprise. And here began the saga of Nintendo's next generation console the "Revolution". The Revolution probably has more rumors and more critics than the PS3 and Xbox 2 combined. However Nintendo was focused on not letting these critics get to them and that they were going to make a console unlike any other.

Revolution Controller Rumors

Now onto the Controller. Nintendo's controller for there next generation console has gotten more coverage than the Xbox 2 and PS3 combined! One of the biggest rumors was that the Revolutions controller would be like no other. It was said that it would feature no buttons what so ever, and would instead use a new technology that Nintendo is supposedly working on. Such as the controller just being one big touchscreen, or the controller haveing gyroscopic motion sensors, and Satoru also confirmed that a microphone is one of the input devices under consideration for the controller, I also came across some info suggesting that the controller would come with Haptic gloves which would let you manipulate as well as control the items or objects on the screen. Sadly none of these rumors have been cleared up as Satoru said in a interview with a japanese business magazine "We are not commenting on any of the Revolutions controller rumors at this time". So pretty much the haptic gloves, gyroscoptic motion sensors, and microphone are still up for grabs. Nintendo doesnt seem to be very eager to clear up any of these rumors, this seems to be an attempt to keep all eyes on them. How ever Satoru did say " The new controller may satisfy the hardcore gamers, but they've become too difficult for more casual gamers." That may be a clue as to how complicated the controller may be for the Revolution.

Known Nintendo Revolution Specs

The controller isnt the only one who is getting there fair of coverage. Recently some big announcments have been made for the Revolution. The biggest announcment so far is that Nintendo is finally jumping on the online bandwagon. By that I mean the Revolution will have online play!! However it will be limited to WiFi aka (Wireless lan). With this amazing announcment Nintendo fans will finally be able to share there love of games online with each other! Another amazing feature that the Revolution will have is that it will be able to hook up to computer monitors. Here is what Nintendo engineer Genyo Takeda said in June of 2004: "You'll be able to play [Revolution] not just by linking up to a television but to a computer monitor as well." I am very confused as to how this is supposed to work but we'll see in the future. In March of 2005 at GDC Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that the Revolution will have backwards compatibility, so you'll still be able to enjoy all those great Gamecube games on the Revolution. It has also been confirmed that both IBM and ATI would supply the CPU and GPU respectively for the Revolution console. In another amazing discovery Nintendo has also announced that they have already sent out development kits to software houses. A price has yet to be set for the Revolution... same goes for a release date. We can expect to hear more at E3 2005. So stay tuned!

NO GAMES FOR THE REVOLUTION HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY NINTENDO

RE-CAP

Nintendo will feature Online play via (WiFi)
The Revolution will be able to hook up to computer monitors
The Revolution will be backwards compatible
ATI will be creating the Revolutions graphics Chip
IBM will be creating the CPU
No release date or price has yet to be set
Nintendo has yet to comment on any controller rumors.
No games have been confirmed as of right now.

Editors Note

E3 is just six weeks away and as it gets closer tension builds between the 3 console giants. After Nintendo announced there going online with WiFi it may have gained them some ground. The Xbox 2 is really on fire right now, it still has the upper hand and seems to be makeing all the moves that Sony should have made, but didnt. Sony is really putting themselves in a **** hole right now. There lawsuit is really slowing them down and im becoming angered with them. On another note im really happy that a Halo 3 was announced!!! As well as fable 2. I cant wait for E3. perhaps we may even hear something about HALO 3 at E3. - Roger327

I would like to take this time and dedicate my editor’s note to Roger327, without him I think that headlines would have faded away. He has taken on the responsibility of making headlines with the recent absence of NightSpiderXL. I feel that without him, headlines would have been put on hold indefinitely. I personally thank him for getting headlines up and running by himself, and I think that it takes a lot of effort to do that. So, I commend you Roger and I thank you for you dedication and persistence. As a fellow editor for headlines, I will try to help you however I can, any way I can. Again, thank you for keeping this dream alive.

Blu-Ray Disc

Blu-Ray is the name of the next generation optical disc format which will be used for Sony's Playstation 3 consoles. Here are some of the companies that are currently useing the Blu-Ray Disc, you may recognize some of them...(Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thompson). One hell of a list isnt it. Soon enough Sony will join the ranks with these companies and be a user of the most powerful disc format ever created. Blu-ray Discs can hold 25GB on a single layer and 50GB on the dual-layer discs, while HD DVD discs, which have yet to be released--will hold only 30GB on a dual-layered disc.

While most current DVD disc formats use a red laser to read and/or write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, which is basically where it got the name Blu-Ray. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which can make it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision on 1 certain area. This allows data and information to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD and DVD disc. The Blu-Ray dsic will also support HDTV and be able to record HD programming, which was nearly impossible with a normal DVD disc.

Blu-ray is expected to replace VCRs and DVD recorders over the coming years, with the transition to HDTV. The format is also likely to become a standard for PC data storage and HD movies in the future.

With them haveing so much experience in the gameing industry and such a large fanbase, they are sure to not dissapoint. On another note I would like to introduce our newest Editor to you all, his name is Killerjt and will be the final piece to our puzzle, meaning our last editor. Playstation 3 Cell Processor
By: halofan86

Well, Sony is pulling out all the stops this time around. They have enlisted the help of none other than IBM to help make their processing unit for the Playstation 3. I know most of you are saying “this is old news, why should I care”. Well, because the unit that they are developing is like no other that has ever graced a console. The unit will have a main processor but, it will have the capability to send up to nine different tasks to sub-processors. Also, the new unit will be running at a constant 4 gigahertz or more. That’s faster than today’s top-end computers and 13 times faster than the PS2’s Emotion Engine. Just for comparison, the PS2’s engine only had 2 sub-processing units. So, the new engine will undoubtedly be the best in any of the next-gen systems, even though it is still unclear whether or not it will run on all nine sub-processing units.
