@kadaverhagga: Wow this is a logical, well thought out comment. I don't see very many of those. Thank you for allowing me to read a comment that didn't make me want to shoot myself in the face.
@smiddyman: You played Ellie for a very short time in the first game. Joel is clearly the main character in the first game. The DLC is DLC. I really don't think it would be more surprising or interesting if Druckmann stated that we play Joel again in the second game.
@iskaroth: I didn't read anywhere in this article where Druckmann said anything at all that even came close to "we want to push the girl power agenda". The man simply stated that Ellie is the player character in this game so, what the actual **** are you talking about.
@simplytheebest: Not only is that not who the main character is, the entire plot of this video game centers around Lincoln killing members of an Italian Mafia family. I guess they could have made Lincoln "look like a made guy" but given that the overall plot does not in any way require him to be a member of the Italian mob this really doesn't any difference what so ever.
@martyngiles: I'd first of like to say that its very strange to talk about the Mafia as if its some cornerstone of Italian culture. Most Italian people try their best to distance themselves from the Mafia and from the ideas and stereotypes that are associated with Italians and the Mafia. The term Mafia as its used in this game was most likely just chosen as the title of the because they wanted to keep the IP recognizable. They will most likely sell more copies of the game by making a sequel in the Mafia franchise and using the same title as the previous games. Lastly, at this point one could call a game about organized crime of any kind "Mafia" and most people would have a relatively decent idea of what said game was about. The word "Mafia" certainly has Italian roots but like many many other terms and phrases it has taken on a wide variety of meanings over time so, at this point when people hear the word Mafia a lot of them just automatically think about organized crime in general.
@ChaosSisco: But Mafia members were at times, quite literally referred to as gangsters. So you wanted to play a Mafia game without gangsters? What is a gangster game if not a Mafia game? I mean the two things I think of when I hear "gangster game" is a game centered around either organized or disorganized crime, in essence either a game about organized criminal orginizations or unorganized street gangs.
@kazeswen: So, you cant relate or empathize with any character that doesn't look just like you? It must be pretty tough for you to become invested in movies or books or television shows. Whether or not one can relate to or empathize with a character is usually dependant on how well said character is written and has nothing to do with the way they look. Tyrion Lannister for example is a character a ton of people empathize with but most of those people aren't drawfs.
