2008 Short Story of the Year
You gotta love a nice, short, satisfying read. This title goes to the best short story of '08! Entries must be no longer than 10,000 words and have been regarded as a completed piece, not ongoing in parts after its release.

2008 Poem of the Year

Entries must be considered poetry, not prose.

Devine Romatic by valla666

^ Not the best poem I have ever read, but one of the best I have ever read on this site. I had found a different one to nominate, but had found out that it was posted November 07. Still, worthy of a nomination in my books.

I would submit others, but the entry I had for the Novella of the year is only 9500 words. Damn you Brent, Damn you. For those who want to know. I was going to nominate his Africa Tale. Give it a read. come on, do it!

Won't work. There are few people in the union worth celebrating. With the Hall of Fame conducted every month, there will no one left to be nominated. Putting up works in the Hall of Fame is the best way to honor the author(in our li'l corner of the world)

I agree entirely that the works are important to celebrate. But there are people who have added a lot more than just the written word to this union. And its not about having time to nominate people or anything like that, its about giving credit where it is due. The nomination phase would work differently. It wouldn't be a month by month thing. After the first batch were put into the Hall of Fame, then the requirements would be set and people would be nominated every 6 months, and voted on. As for these requirements, I have some in mind, but that would have to be a joint decision between the leaders and such.

Why do we have to go to members who do not contribute to the union any more.

What does that mean? Sorry, can you please clarify?

As far as I know it's been Foolz and ilf who've been running the show without a glitch helped by Aber, perhaps. I don't intend to offend anyone, but I don't see why the above mentioned members have been overlooked for older members who are not active. I'm really sorry if I've offeneded the guys mentioned by Rookie.

Yes, Foolz and ILF have been doing a lot, but there will come a time when a new person will be in charge and all that. Its a cycle, and if people want to live in a world where they believe nothing will ever change than so be it. But history remains etched in stone proving that things change. When that time comes, its only right that the new guys who come in acknowledge what the past people did to get them where they are.

Those who I mentioned did amazing things for this union, as have Foolz and ILF whom I believe are two members who would go into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. There are a couple more from this 'era' that deserve recognition. At the same time, its part of our history, those guys who in the past are important. No one was overlooked or anything. The guys who are working now, everyone knows that, but we can never forget the past - its essential to our future.

There was going to be an honorable mention category for the vote, but I didn't think about mentioning union contributions and etc. The union's history isn't really my forte anyway, I'd rather leave that part up to Foolz3h and meleeman.iloveflash

No offense, but on the offense against Foolz, I doubt he'd remember the early history where we really got off the ground. I think Brent would be a better pick or even put together a committee of say 3 people - current leader (Foolz), Brent (member since day 1) and a possibly myself. It would work. Sadly, I know this unions history backwards, and forwards, at least leading up to this summer. After that, I know bits and pieces.
