I've decided to get one of these Gigabyte motherboards, and the only real difference I see is lack of raid for the ds3l, and the northbridge heatsink is slightly smaller than the ds3r. I'll be using this motherboard for oc'ing my current pentium d until penryn arrives next year and I upgrade, so is there any major difference between the overclockability between these boards?

To be blunt, it sucks. Try buying an artic freezer 7 pro, that will keep it nice and cool, and will allow for some headroom for overclocking.

Alright, so as long as I don't plan on buying a $1k QX9650 (or w/e it's called) I'm good to go with a DS3R until I eventually upgrade to Intel's next socket?

So what is the desktop Penryn's fsb going to be? I was planning on buying a new motherboard, a Gigabyte P35-DS3R, but if the X38 chipset is more future proof I was thinking of going with one of Asus or Gigabyte's new X38 motherboards.

Sorry bud, with the current hardware, it will be impossible to play well at that resolution. Wait for the new 8800gts or the RV670 cards to come out, also wait and possibly snag the Extreme quad core penryn coming out next month.

Wait, the site says that it is pci-e 2.0. Is it actually? Is that the reason for the performance boost?

first off laggin is when your internet is slowing down your game play.

my 8800gts 320mb plays crysis demo at 1680x1050 at 30 fps which is playable. so i would assume an Ultra can handle that game on your res.

Hey bud, lagging can also mean a drop in frames per second. Hence the audio is farther ahead of the video because the video is lagging.

Definition of lag: to fail to maintain a desired pace or to keep up; fall or stay behind (dictionary.com)

I need a decent sound card because I'm getting some Sennheiser's and I don't want to use the crappy onboard Realtek. What is a good soundblaster sound card under $50?

Also, how good is the Gigabyte DS3R for overclocking? I've decided I'm gonna buy one of these and overclock the living hell out of Pentium D until Penryn comes out.

I don't admit defeat because I bought my 8800GTS 3 months ago and since then I've played a lot of games. At that time it was the best choicedayaccus007

I agree, I did the same thing.

At PDXLAN 10, Intel said that Oct cores will be coming around June. :)
