I love FF7 just as much as any of you, in fact 5mins ago i left a comment defending the game. But it was a classic for more than the advanced graphics - it was the story and characters and shock value. Playing it again just wouldn't be the same and wouldn't be able to convey the game the same way to the new generation. They'd just shake it off having already known what was coming - it would have the hype but it the game was genius in it's context. I consider Advent and Dirge of Cerberus just trying to milk the franchise, it would just tarnish the classic. Like X-2 was to FFX. Unless you're the type who watch your fav movie like 10x.....then again i would buy the re-make if they made it simply because it was so great
FF7 was the first RPG to take it to the next level - it didn't just move fwd as little as possible to make sales but Square gave it everything they had. The characters were each individual masterpieces in their histories and relationships and no-one could come up with a story as intricate and shocking as this was(I went and cried when Aeris died). Even modern movies can't compete with the game's story. It was the defining game for a whole generation and the whole RPG genre.
There are but a handful of games that will be remembered like this. Halo will be one as the FPS-definer, Doom, SimCity, GTA etc. The game just brings back vivid and emotional memories for everyone who's played it. Playing the game now just doesn't serve it justice, you had to play back in the day to truly understand the context and meaning of the classic
