Played it for a few days and its good, but not great. Not a game you can just play by yourself long without serious repetitive boredom setting in. There is only so perfect you can go on each track before you realize you just can't go any faster without being just plain lucky. My awesome driving skills were rarely a factor other than luck being a fickle mistress.
You will crash and restart. A lot! Over and over again. Any slight touch of the walls or terrain will have a dude telling you to watch the paintwork, and I just wanted to punch him as I'd already hit the restart button for the umpteenth time! Anything other than a near perfect run and constant top speed will not get you any advancement to the next track. Silver or better only, I'm afraid.
The controls are way, way too twitchy for all but two of the cars. The Dune-buggy type car for dirt tracks I began to quickly loathe with a seething hatred. I found myself slight-tapping the steering for micro management of direction changes so very much I was cursing and swearing that stupid car to burst into flames.
Its really an arcade game to play with friends and online only, with only solo play to try and get some practice in an unlocking tracks. But there is only so many times you can laugh at your own and your buddies/rivals lousy driving/crashing before its just an overwhelming, uncomfortable, frustration for everyone.
Why the hurry to stare at a screen that lets you turn your head? Take your time to enjoy your tiny phone screen, you won't be needing it much longer...
I thought pc gaming was dead? Consoles of this generation are hard pressed to compete with the level of detail of the next couple years of pc version vr headsets. I know console vr headsets are yet to make a mark but PC hardware is beyond comparison. To hell with the expense. This is the ferrari of gaming right now and its accelerating fast.
Good thing I have a GTX970, but I think I may upgrade again before acquiring a vr headset :)
No more switching between 3 main characters. Make 1/2 main characters (male/female?) and add 2 or more as game extensions/dlc.
I more or less just got pissed at Trevor being useless at making serious money. Also, he was always somewhere remote and in a dress/underwear. Funny at first, annoyingly frustrating when getting further into the story. Should have been a supporting character always getting into trouble. Not a playable character.
