I don't know whether I agree with their analysis of D2. I don't think people resented the simplistic skill system, I actually think that it's played a huge part in the longevity of the game. The good thing about D2 was that the amount of knowledge necessary to play the game was incredibly low, yet to actually go as far as you can, you'd need to understand some rather complex systems. (Only game that ever made me wonder about fps breakpoints)
The thing D2 got right for me was that it didn't give you an incredibly twisted system and streamlined it for easier use, but that they did the opposite, they gave you simple systems that you could abuse in rather complex ways.
Saved the bummer for the end of the article.. no love for the PC. I take it the predecessor didn't sell. Gonna have to stick with part one then, I guess
Stop it with the videos, please? I've been visiting GS for what seems like forever, but I can't stand those unnecessary videos anymore. I'm not even saying they're all that bad, but I (and I think loads of other people) visit GS to read articles. You should have stopped at video reviews.
This issue is slowly fading out, it's true that it's only a matter of time. The generation(s) that grew up with video games are now already a huge chunk of the relevant age group and this is has an obvious effect on the perception of video games in general. On a personal note, I assume that anybody who has spent more than a month of his life playing video games is actually aware, that they have little more in terms of side effects than most other extended activities.
I love that man, his music played an important role in the success of the FF series. The soundtracks have all been great. Shame on Square for the XIII soundtrack.
Will there be no Blizzard booth this time or why are Starcraft II and Diablo III missing from that list?! I'm getting giddy just by typing in those titles.
Honestly, those comparisons are not really helpful. The differences are so minimal that no gamer can honestly tell me that it influenced his gaming experience. (Maybe for Dead Space as the PS3 lighting seems to be a tad darker and that matches the game better.. maybe.) I mean honestly, when you are playing Soul Calibur, will you REALLY care about the detail level of the flowers in the background? It may have been a few months since I played a Beat-'em-up but I am certain that flowers were not part of the concept.
@kweeni -> read the post above yours. C&C has been a great franchise for quite some time and its importance for the genre can not be ignored. I think P. Molyneux should be in there as well as the guys from Blizzard. (Anybody saying that Starcraft and Warcraft are not 2 of the greatest franchises ever made: You're a fool!)
Anybody notice how out of context this discussion is? Graphically the XBOX wins.. wow. great deal. Because we all know that games are purely based on graphics and thus a graphically inferior console will not succeed. That's bull. The PS3 is technically equal to the 360 because of its processor (not bc of the graphics). Both systems feature great games and will feature games in the future that get all those nice titles such as "videogaming milestone" etc. That's almost a given. Why? Because they're the only serious consoles out there aiming for gamers. This quarreling about is ultimatley just childish. It's like "I bought a PS3/360 so now I have to justify that decision by making all other alternatives look bad." "My console is best".. blah blah Really. Get straight.
