@aovannor @SciFiRPGfan @Uruca Well, even in terms majority in comment section, the reasons of each member of said majority could differ to a degree, hence why I said that it is generally better to speak for oneself when explaining something.

As for article having the right to be here or not, I felt like your "it's also why we don't want it all over our gaming news" implied that it shouldn't be here to say the least in the way, form or capacity that it currently is.

If that's not the case - ie. if you don't like the article, but are O.K. with it being here until you will know for sure that it doesn't have the necessary audience, I'll retract that point.

@aovannor @Uruca Hey. Thanks for voicing your disagreement in a relatively polite manner. Two things though.

1. I think that you shouldn't speak for other people (e.g. "we", "most of us gamers") even if you feel like your opinion represents majority. Not only that may not be the case, but it's kinda impolite to self-appointedly speak on behalf of others and may give the impression like you need to feel to have your opinion validated by numbers. "I like / dislike" would do just fine IMO.

2. I find your attitude kinda arrogant in the "Stop liking what I don't like!" way. I don't see a reason why both (or all) types of gaming articles couldn't coexist together. It's not like you can't ignore these types of articles if they bother you and it's not like the people who come here "just" for them will then go to "your" articles and spam them or something.

Also, the author isn't doing any other types of articles so it's not like he could have written something else instead.

And finally, you can't even be sure that GS is loosing money on this. E-sports is pretty big (like at least 100K people watching some e-sport event at almost any given time) and just because they do not comment here, it doesn't mean that they may not have generated the traffic that GS wanted.

So really, the only obvious downside might be your own inconvenience while you are browsing GS. And that is, like I said, pretty arrogant reason for demanding GS to stop doing it.

@sammoth @Uruca But it does. The people in question are playing videogames. Not to mention that the strategies and tactics they are using in their games are directly applicable in your own games.

@Rayzakk @SciFiRPGfan @Landsharkk @Mrod1212 Nope. Actually a lot of Starcraft / e-sport fans are like that.

Nothing wrong with wanting what you like to grow and prosper.

@Rayzakk @Landsharkk @Mrod1212 Or he could be just a fan of Starcraft 2 / other e-sports and wants his favourite e-sport to get more coverage in media (including Gamespot).

@Sekhemket 1."Why is it instantly assumed financial reasons are why people hate this?"

I suppose that's because of tons of "get a real job" comments that critics post. The way I see it is, that primary point of having a job is to earn money and since pro-gaming can be source of pretty good income, it should fit the definition of a "real job" just fine. Otherwise how do you want to determine what is what is not a "real job"? Is being a writer at GS one?

Hence the discussions usually revolve around money.

2. "My problem with eSports is the over the top seriousness a large majority of the players have."

Then you haven't watched many events. Many players, casters, entertainers and such are actually very easy-going people. I agree that this commercial IS unnecessarily serious and kinda boring. But that does not apply to a whole e-sport scene.

Also, players love their games and some pretty solid money can be at stake too so sometimes they do get emotional, but nothing over the top in comparison to what is going on in other areas. Besides with all the "drama" we have in gaming it's nothing unusual.

3. "Also what you do does not even compare to the top Athletic competitions, no matter how good a player is at SCII or any other online game."

So? Some sports are more popular and are operated with more money, people, attention, media coverage,... some are less. Just because let's say SC2 can't compete with football or basketball it doesn't mean that it doesn't have its audience and that the people who are invested in it should suddenly act like it's something unimportant just because it's less important than football...

By that logic there could only be like what 5 to 10 sports / entertainment activities...

@Matthew-first Starcraft 2 pro player Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson has recently married Miss Oregon 2011. Another Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 pro Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen is married with Miss Singapore 2004 finalist. That's just from top of my head.

Now I don't want to compare the looks of those ladies with the girl in the picture, nor I want to compare those guys with the guy in the picture, but I would never say never.

@Fantomass @SciFiRPGfan @Jake518 @MachShot I disagree. I think that there's nothing pathetic about calling people out on their BS. Especially if one does it in defense of what he likes / cares about.

Mingling in the things one doesn't care about and undermining own arguments by own behaviour (pointing out uselessness of professional gaming in a discussion about videogames, which is pretty useless activity to do itself) is far worse IMO.

@jos1365 Then go and read some other news. Just because this article is not for you it does not mean that other people are not interested in it either.

To each his own is a good attitude to live by.

@Sardinar Nah, if you really enjoy e-sports as you claim you probably shouldn't let bunch of whining nobodys ruin the fun for you.

As I see it, more and more people are starting to actually defend these articles from stupid remarks. Eventually, the complainers will be in minority.
