I recently bought a new Asus Laptop http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873 It runs everything on high settings (even crysis, in dx9 mode) without any stutter and is overall stable, aside from one thing that KEEPS happening. It always seems to happen whenever I install windows updates.(this is vista 64-bit btw) I'll start the computer after i install the updates and it gives me a message similar to "windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt..." and I have to do a HDD wipe and install vista, all drivers etc (which all came with the recovery disk) and it works fine. This has happened about 5 times and I don't even mean for it to, because vista is sneaky and installs updates whenever i turn it off. It's pissing me off...a LOT. All my saved games, etc keep disappearing because i have to fresh install every single time. Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening?

Well, I've seen people mention this laptop as being an amazing unbelieveable deal and tons of people say that they're all-too satisfied with it. Honestly, the specs on it seem so incredibly ridiculous for the price, that i hesitate. There has to be SOMETHING about this computer that makes it fall below higher priced computers. What do you guys think? Link is below.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8892825&st=7811&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1211587727985

Specs for people too afraid to click links...

Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology with interrelated Intel® CoreTM2 Duo processor P8400, Intel® Mobile PM45 Express chipset, Intel® Wireless Wi-Fi Link network connection , extended battery life capability

4GB DDR3 memory for multitasking power, 1066MHz frontside bus, 3MB L2 cache and 2.26GHz pocessor speed

Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support records up to 8.5GB of data or 4 hours of video using compatible DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL media; supports DVD-RAM; also supports Labelflash direct-disc labels using compatible Labelflash media

The next-generation Intel® CoreTM2 Duo processor is based on the innovative Intel® CoreTM microarchitecture, so it runs faster and is more energy-efficient for cooler, quieter operation

17" WUXGA TFT widescreen display with 1920 x 1200 resolution

200GB SATA hard drive (7200 rpm)

NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS graphics with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete video memory; high-definition audio (2-channel); HDMI connector

So basically, that's 4 GB of ram, a good core 2 duo with a decent clock speed, a 17 inch 1920 x 1200 resolution screen, and a 9800 GTS (do those exist? or were they renamed?) and a 200GB HDD with a fast data xfer speed. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE FOR $1350? A laptop with those specs from another company would be what...$2800-$4000?

Someone throw me a bone.

Well from what I saw, your laptop has no video card. Besides that, decent specs for a laptop. Assuming it has an integrated graphics card also like 99% of other laptops, it should be able to play some games. Not Crysis, but some games like WoW at least.

9800 GTS

I can't find any info on this card...What are its benchmarks?

The only real info I could get on this card is that it is outperformed by the 8800 gtx...what's up with that?

Wow...those specs for that price? In a LAPTOP? That's the best deal I've seen so far. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I'm planning on (sometime soon) purchasing a new gaming laptop. I don't want to build my own, so please don't suggest this :P

What I'm looking for is a machine capable of running games like Bioshock, TES4: Oblivion, etc. on mostly high settings. I'm NOT looking for something that will destroy Crysis like the HP HDX "THE Dragon" 20'' Laptop (if you can even CALL that a Laptop)

I just want something that will easily max out WoW: WOTLK, mostly max out Oblivion, and do well on games with the Unreal Engine 3, like Unreal Tournament 3.

I've pretty much searched everywhere that I know to, and have gotten very little results. Most laptops have a decent GPU with a NASTY processor, or a good processor with an integrated GPU.

Any laptops that can do this around a price range of, say...$1000 to $1500?

Actually, in Game Informer, a developer stated that they will probably allow you to download Yoda to the ps3/ Vader to 360, so i'd say that it's very likely.

I'll tell you why.

Developers looked at what a piece of trash Iron Man (the video game) was, and puked at the thought.

Sub-par graphics, horrible (and almost non-existant) storyline, apalling voice acting, mediocre multiplayer and...hmm...im probably missing a few things.
