Although the British were fighting a multi front warfrom what i heard we were doing quite well, we simpley gave up, we don't have much of a history of invading countries that fight back
mfacek
Exactly. Such pointless wars were never in the empire's interests. There's no use in holding a geographical area if it's inhabitants turn out to be disloyal traitors.
 Are you serious? Disloyal traitors? How about the fact that Britian didn't treat us like Englishman and levied heavy taxes on us. Plus they had a large army over here that was supposedly for defensive purposes, and the people were forced to let them in their homes and to provide for them. Don't try and make it seem like Britian is the noble one here. They were greedy. We fought back.
What? Do they even teach history anymore?
The army in America was for AMERICAN DEFENSE. They were to defend the colonies from the French, Indians, AND Spanish. This was right after the French-Indian War, which spawned a world war that England fought for their colonies in America.
These taxes that you speak of? They were to fund the debt England incurred fighting FOR America, and to support their army in America for AMERICAN DEFENSE. The taxes the colonists paid were FAR SMALLER then the taxes paid in England.
Keep in mind, an American is writing this. I think the Revolutionary War WAS justified, but at least know what you are talking about Howlrunner13.
There are always two sides to every story. I agree with your points though, and actually my school in America does teach history suprisingly well. On the other hand, a lot of tension could have been avoided if England had given the colonies representation in Parliament.
[QUOTE="hrmuffnstuff"] I wont stand up for any individual American politician, but the reason common sense is not working for you is indeed because of faulty political practice within the US. That however does not give you license to write off centralized government in favour of anarchy. Make it work by making wise as opposed to ignorant voting decisions.VandalvideoCommon sense, the worst memetic to ever invade the minds of human beings. And I'm not writing off other governments. I'm saying they won't work here because of the different environment.
You're my hero.
[QUOTE="Jacobistheman"][QUOTE="peppersfan2"]You should leave, but once you get there you will realize that Canada, England and New Zealand are Just as bad.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRqcfqiXCX0
When I see crap like this i start thinking about how good Canada England and New Zealand look.
Since Mcain is to afraid of standing up to the racists in his audience it will go uncheked.

No, In Canada we have something called MultiCulturism, racism is not tolerated
..and America doesn't have multiculturism?
[QUOTE="mismajor99"][QUOTE="blackngold29"]I like Gulianni's line, "I'm sorry [Palin's] hometown isn't cosmopliton enough, Mr. Obama, maybe they are clinging to their guns." That's not exact, but close.blackngold29
as someone from the Philly area, I can tell you, outside the major cities in PA, they don't call PA "Alabama" for no reason, it's loaded with right wing religous nuts that thankfully don't outnumber everyone else, hence why it's mostly Blue over the years. That remark was absolutey correct, it's just that honesty STINGS! haha
Who calls PA Alabama?I live in Pennsylvania and nobody does, at least in southwestern PA.
[QUOTE="famicommander"][QUOTE="alexmurray"][QUOTE="famicommander"][QUOTE="alexmurray"]Again: Change, Bush sucks, change, change, change, hope, yes we can, Bush sucks, change.yes nobody is doubting that but its one of the three things mccain says everyday
back in nam
obama is inexperienced
and my friends at the start of each sentence
McCain needs to learn that bing a POW isnt going to help you be president
alexmurray
you need to watch full speeches not the soundbites
I don't watch any speeches from any candidate, period. All politicians are liars. I look at accomplishments, voting records, policies, character, and experience. McCain trashes Obama in every one of those categories, and thus has earned my vote.voting record... do you like 90% of bush?
The 90% figure is just pandering though. A considerable amount of things voted upon in congress are unanimous votes, ie. commending the New York Giants on their Superbowl victory. In fact, probably all the senators and representives agree with the whitehouse the majority of the time.
[QUOTE="trix5817"][QUOTE="alexmurray"][QUOTE="famicommander"][QUOTE="alexmurray"]It is not a matter of opinion. You can't just throw out experience because you want to, or because of a small population. Especially when you consider the fact that Obama was not even in politics yet while Palin was a mayor, a city council woman, a city manager, and the president of the Alaska Council of Mayors. And what about her terms on the Ethics Committee, the Municipal Board, and the Interstate Gas Commission? Are we ignoring those too?hay its all opinion, I don't count being a mayor and a council member experience, republicans must be desperate to dig down that far
alexmurray
By your logic, I can throw out Obama's time as a state legislator. That leaves him with three years of a Senator. Two years of that was spent campaigning for president. That leaves a one year Senator versus a two year governor. You still lose.
he was still a senator when he was campaigning,
and being a mayor of a small town or state senator, state senator is more important
Why are you acting as if it's the only things she's done? You're just ignoring the facts now.......
Im sorry she did various other unimportant jobs
Isn't it at all concerning to you that people are comparing the relative inexperience of the Republican vice-presidential canidate to the inexperience of the Democratic presidential canidate? Even if its true that Obama has slightly more experience than Palin, where does that put you? Slightly more experience than someone with very little?
[QUOTE="InterpolWilco"]Well it will be easier for Obama to spend than McCain. I look at it like this..I'm not happy with the candidates but a Rep for pres with the current makeup in the Senate and House will be for the best.Exactly what I'm afraid of.
You pull out of Iraq, great, but your taking that money and still going to spend it wisely or not spend it at all, which is going to keep inceasing the debt.

Couldn't possibly agree more. In a perfect world, the two parties keep each other in check. When either party takes over both legislative and executive branches, the worst in their parties seem to come out (ie. neo-cons and socialists). Part of the reason I thought the Clinton years were good was due to the Republican congress keeping spending in check.
