I get that feeling everytime I look down at the PSP, see its potential, but see no worthwhile games buying for the system.

The 360 and PS3 version both look awful compared to the PC version. My 6600gt can do fear better than the 360, that's embarassing...

[QUOTE="Dead_Menn"]damn, I don’t care about BSHome if it makes cows feel better about there purchase than all the power too them.... but when people start posting cowish threads like "ZOMG XBL KILLER" and "TEH CONSOLE WAR IS OVA" it just puts lemmings in to defensive mode... so before you try and gloat.... just wait till it comes out (something cows must be use to now)... then talk smack! CubeJL

The thing is, in spite of Home, XBL is a much more robust service as it stands now.  HD movies, tv shows, music videos, trailers, demos, XBL arcade, gamerscorres, achievements in every game...I think Home has a looooong way to go towards proving it has anything over XBL.

I think it's wise for "cows" (god, I hate these silly names we have for people) to sit patiently and see how this whole thing rolls out.  What's the timeline on all this?  Will it be free?  Is it tier based?  So many things in the air still at this point.

I'll try and answer without starting a flame war...

HD movies -- Will be downloadable through the PlayStation Store, not Home.

tv shows -- Will be downloadable through the PlayStation Store, not Home.

music videos -- Will be downloadable through the PlayStation Store, not Home.

trailers -- Will be downloadable through the PlayStation Store, not Home.

demos --  Will be downloadable through the PlayStation Store, not Home.

XBL arcade -- They have retro and new games, that are... surprise surprise... downloadable through the PlayStation Store, not Home.

You're confusing Home with marketplace, which the Playstation store is the equivalent to Xbox Live marketplace right now. Home is more the community aspect of PS3.

gamerscorres -- Doesn't use, uses "trophies", you collect 3D animated trophies which go in your "hall of fame" room:

for example:

achievements in every game -- again, you unlock trophies in every game, not scores, from what I know anyway. In your Home, there's a room, it will have all the trophies that are available for every game. The one's you haven't collected will be greyed out, similar to the effect in Star Wars, where han solo gets frozen, trophies you haven't unlocked will look sorta like that.

Firstly, I see a lot of "will be"s in your claims.  The point:  it's all conjecture at this point.  For XBL, it's here now...no waiting, no empty promises.

Secondly, trophies (sounds more ridiculous the more I say it, actually) are not confirmed for every game.  My complaint?  Sony STILL has no answer for achievements / gamerscores.

Finally, I'm not confusing anything w/ anything.  Sony does not have an answer for XBL yet.  And I don't think Home makes any inroads towards accomplishing this.

Trailers, demos, arcade games are all currently downloadable through the PlayStation store RIGHT NOW any PS3 owner can tell you that. It doesn't yet have TV shows, music videos but you can bet they're coming.

I'm pretty sure Sony are in talks with third parties for trophies to be in every game. IGN noticed that even Resistance and Motorstorm would have trophies and those games have already been released, meaning developers can potentially go back and add unlockable trophics through a future game patch or in future releases.

You are confused. Otherwise how come you don't know about the PlayStation store and that you can download media and demos through that?

[QUOTE="Sgt_Hale"][QUOTE="CubeJL"]

I am happy that Sony has finally decided to take "geek braggin' rights" more seriously, but I don't think Home is the way to go.

With a gamerscore, one can see right underneath the account name, a numerical representation on hand to demonstrate how "leet" one's skills are.  Trophies, while a pretty neat idea, aren't quite as practical...I'm not going to take the time to browse someone else's virtual apartment in order to figure out how many trophies he has relative to mine.

It's just a tad on the excessive side, Sony.  At least it's on the right the track...

CubeJL

Just like any other MMO, I'm sure you'll be able to browse gamer stats in any particular room. The apartments are for your buddies and clans.... different devs & games will have their own clubhouses that gather the type of gamers you will want to play with for any particular genre... it's actually a pretty hot idea. I'd much rather be able to show off a virtual trophy room then be limited to just having stats! Awesome step forward.

For people like yourself, I think it's a great idea.  As you stated, those interested in clans and the like (i.e. the hardest-of-hardcore gamers) will be enthralled with Home.  I just think it's a bit over-the-top for the average person.

I'd like to see what a quick view of one's gamer tag will look like...until then, I'll reserve final judgement as to the practicality of the Home idea.

Maybe they'll have a tally of how many trophies you've earned?? Then again, that would copying gamer scores.

Let's keep all discussion of the awesome new online service from Sony in here...

What's it about?

This is PlayStation Home, it's basically the online service we've been praying for. It's kinda like Second Life, where you're a virtual avatar and can walk around in 3D etc and talk to people, only it also involves inviting those you meet to join you in online PS3 games.

Video:

Images:

Chatting and socialising, similar to Second Life...

Engage in mini-games, like Bowling...

Your "Hall of Fame", this is basically PS3's form of achievement's instead, you earn actual 3D animated trophies for your game accomplishments...

Your personal room, which you can adorn and rearrange as you like, it's all physics based too, so you can pull and move objects around and the physics will act accordingly...

This is cool, you can stream videos stored on your PS3 hard drive, then watch them on a TV in your room, other people online can watch them too!

Likewise, you can share and listen music stored on your hard drive too, for online parties or something...

More mini-games you can play... (you also play retro arcade machines that are strewn around the place)

This appears to be one of the "themed lobbies", it's based upon a publisher's game, this is clearly something EA-related. I think this is what online lobbies for games will be like...

Movie Theaters! Notices the Spider-man 3 poster there? You can watch movies in virtual cinemas! How cool!

Control it all through a PSP-like menu interface, actual PSP controlability may be an option as well...

[QUOTE="Shtinky"]Today I saw a few shops like HMV, Virgin etc putting up their PS3 pre order displays. It seems like every store still has plenty of pre orders left, doesn't look like people are tripping over themselves to pre order it.DanC1989
I didn't even know that you were also from the UK. Where-abouts do you live?

Yeah I do :D And I'm in South London, Croydon... It's a bit of a chav town here lol :(
