Just follow it just like gilksy says on the video and he says spread evenly basically transparent. So spread it on the heatsink areas like he said making sure its even and real thin. So just listen to gilksy video like you been doing his fix sure works I did it twice on my ps3 60gb and my friend did it three times. It is only temp but I backed up all my data so thats a good thing.

Artic Silver is what I used and it worked fine. Just make sure you have a spreader or a flimsy card so you can spread the paste evenly.

About the slim it was a poster who said that the popping noise is because a screw that it tightend to much on the front bottom of the slim ps3. He said unloosen it a little and the popping noise will go away I did'nt do it to mine yet because its not gone hurt or kill the system but if you are getting annoyed by it that is how you fix it. It is a common small problem that alot of ppl experience with the slim but thats how you fix it a screw on the bottom front of the slim is too tight.

Well this month alone I bought 6 games. Because Toys r us have buy 2 get 1 free, then bestbuy, and now Target has the sale going on. I feel kind of guilty getting so many games in one month that will make it 9 in one month :(. But I mean I just l love to game I love to collect games its my hobby and what I love to do when I'm not spending time with my family. We all have hobbies and this is one that is not affecting my health in a negative way so I say lets game on. On ps3 I have around 65 games disc base games and about 12 psn games/ Xbox I have 13 games / Sold my Wii thought it was crappy/ Ps2 over 200 hundred games but haven't touched it since i owned a ps3. This year I bought probably 12 so far I think? not sure hard to remember to be honest.

When I restored my ps3 on my slim the only content I was missing was PSN games and game installs. Everything else was on there. So if you do the fix you will get you MOH game out and you will will get your pictures, videos, and save files. I backed up my information using an external HDD but there is another way called a Data Utility Transfer I believe thats what it is called. They say that allows you to get even more information all what you need is both systems working and a ethernet cable so if you dont want to buy an external HDD get the 60gb system working by doing temporary fix go google data utility transfer and it will direct you to sony's site and it will prompt you how to do it successfully. If you have any more questions just leave me a message be happy to answer. Also if your doing the fix (thermal paste) radioshack screwdriver set, torx head screwdriver, and heatgun lowes or home depot.

The fan test does not work on 60gb ps3s and has been made a fact by numerous people who own 60gb models. I have myself have tried it among hundeds of other people so again the fan test does not work on the 60gb models. It was stated in alot of the ylod fix videos that it does not work on 60gb. Futhermore it damages your system and why would you want to cause more damage to it. The only way that hundreds of other people have discussed on forums is doing the ylod fix or sending it too sony. The fan test works for 40gbs, 80gbs and up. That video posted does not hold any truth since many people i personally know and talked to on forums discussed the fan test does not work on 60gbs. And Even if you do the fan test your ps3 data is still not backed up and saved !! So just do the ylod fix it could last a few days or months and you will get your game out and be able to back up your data. So TC just try to fix it yourself back up your data and buy a slim. case closed

Man you can get your data man. Don't listen to half the people on there. I got ylod of death twice and I have not lost any data. This is what I did : I went on youtube and looked up how to fix ps3 ylod and I found a video from gilksy. Its not expensive to fix all what you need is thermal paste(artic silver for example), Screw Driver Set, Torx Head Screwdriver, and a heatgun. That will not cost you that much and plus its items you maybe able to use again around the house. The video is amazingly easy I mean super easy followed it my ps3 cranked back up I plugged in an external HDD and went to backup ps3 and all my data was backed up. Now this next step you don't have to follow I did it because I had a 320 gb in my 60 gb. So I took out the 160gb from the slim I bought put in my 320gb and then downloaded 3.50 software off the playstation site on to my external HDD. Once I cranked up my slim I saw screen saying needs 3.50 software and press start and select did that it loaded the software. From there I went to restore and it restored all my save files and trophies which are the only things important to me.

My PSN games and themes weren't there but If I wish I can just redownload them all didn't really care about that. I also had to reinstall any games that neededan install. Like for example I think it was star wars fu I needed and install for that so I installed the game again but my save files were intact. So bud try the fix back up your data is easy to do and that way you won't have to start over! Good luck I mean your in a situation where if you want your data you don't have any other option so give it a shot just take your time and it you can do it.

Also I would like to ADD the fan trick does not work on 60gb models but once you fix the ylod and turn on your system your game will come out and this is a temporary fix and not permanent so work fast in getting your game and data off the system.

The above posters are right. Alot of games are set for 720p only so your tv will adjust to the 720 p which isnt a big problem. I mean you won't even really be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 unless you have a fairly large tv. I would just leave the settings alone because those games which are 1080 wont adjust down to 720 from the xmb. So I dont see it as annoying at all so just leave the settings alone imo and enjoy your games its working like it should.
