btw dont order from retail price... u can find that same or close to card for >300 at newegg... i work at a bestbuy in atlanta and sometimes laugh at what people pay for a 8800 gt when they can find it for $100 less online...L0000m35

Point me in the right direction please? If your talking about paying 300$ for a 4870x2.. or one close to it. I only brought up best buy because it was on sale. Now its sold out.

Yes question is asked all the time but the answer is always so up for grabs.

4870x2.. what, 560$.. Im stupid and didn't order it from best buy when i had the chance.

Im going to be running on a 22" lcd, mostly just waiting for upcomming games such as diablo 3, and sc2, but for now just whatever on 1680x1050 probably.

Card thats gonna run good on that, alot ofpeople say 4870 is more than enough, but is it? or the gtx 280? idc maybe a cheaper card that will run good still?

[QUOTE="whitechocolate_"]By the time any games make a real use for quad core, there'll be something out there way better and more worth your money to buy. So the only real reason to get a q6600 is if your multitasking alot.DaGamingGod

There's already a few games and programs that make use of quad cores. Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, Alan Wake all make use of quads as well.

Btw, he's going to be going off to college and probably won't have cash to spend on constant upgrades. A quad core will last him a lot longer than a dual core would.

Yeah, paying for my apartment also so won't have any kind of real paying job for another year and a half when i'm out. (New england tech!! haa.. Rhode Island sucks) ... What's better about the 4870x2 v. GTX vid? And which one of the 4870x2 do i get?

So more or less when i do decide to start overclocking the Q6600 is going to be the one better for it because the upcomming programs are made more for it rather than the E8400? What about the E8500 with 3.16GHz

Alright just waking up now this morning. Thanks for all the feedback everyone. So i was following your discussion of a dual vs a quad and i still dont really understand why your pushing the Q6600, why not just egt a E8400 and not overclock? Not sure if i mention this but impretty new to most so overclocking isnt something id be doing RIGHT away, i need to understand more about computers and such before i risk breaking it you know?

Basically just want a comparison between the Q6600 and the E8400, why one will benifit more than another.

And as for future proof.. ehh its whatever. I figure i will need a few new parts in a year or two anyways. Even a stock dell computer finds a way to s*** the bed after the first month if you touch anything. Upgrades can be made later. Just looking for something that will last a decent amount of time.

Whats wrong with dual core? and the hard drive.

Also an e8400 has 3.0 ghz.. Q6600 is 2.4?
