@Vaelore I've been playing since the original Street Fighter in the arcades (game sucks) and from the very beginning of Street Fighter 2. I hear what you're saying as it bores even me but Ken is my dude and always has been.
Destiny is certainly lacking something, I can't quite put my finger on it but I would have loved a few more secrets...reasons to explore this absolutely gorgeous world. You occasionally find a cave, the same cut and paste cave, and 85% of the time they are empty. Being a loot driven game we need more random, hidden accessible areas with chances to find some cool stuff.
Now...I still love the game and there's just so much fun to be had teaming up with randoms and going on strikes. How you start off all kind of running around in different directions, slowly learning the ways of each player on your team and not working very well together but as the mission progresses you turn into a well oiled machine. Covering each other, reviving a downed player and that celebratory dance of victory. Awesome stuff !
And smaller cool moments like when I was at the Citadel. I jumped over the railing and was sitting on one of the ship docking spires out over the city, enjoying my view when I head foot steps. I turned around and there was another player, they came out and started dancing so naturally I accepted their invitation and got down as well. After a few moments I stopped, bowed to them and jumped off killing myself...but right after I jumper the other player saluted as I started my descent to doom.
Overall I think there's something really special here but it needs to be experienced with other people, going solo I could see the game getting a little repetitive. I love the cooperation, I love the PvP so I would give this game a 8 right now.
My question - I find Ubisoft a terrible and reprehensible company. I have avoided purchasing anything by them for a few years now except Trials Fusion, because screw you Ubisoft for buying Redlynx and I love Trials.
The only reason I am considering this game is that it's set in Chicago and I live in Chicago. How detailed in the actual game geography, is it meticulously detailed or just an artist interpretation ? I want to finally be able to walk around and do crazy stuff in my hometown without the chance of getting arrested. This greatly interests me. Can this game overcome my dislike for a company with such horrible business practices or should I pass. I am going to buy it used so Ubisoft doesn't see a dime if I do decide to pick it up.
@Microsteve @balrogbane "6" means a good game and you should try. Anything on Gamespot bestowed with that rating I've have had great fun with. Why even have a rating system if the first six are useless ?
Game of the year 2014...seriously. All Trials are game of the year. I've never sunk so much time into a game and I've been playing them since the Atari 2600 came out. Cheers, Redlynx.
@adamdiran Not going to lie, I prefer linear and usually get bored to tears from the GTA games but I like to have a little breathing room. I found the last Thief game to be near perfection, it was a series of missions but I was able to slightly wander around the city on route. I have a feeling that's what this one is going to be like but a few reviews are making it sound "clausterphobic."
I like reviews but try use them as an opinion and nothing else. Like I said, I am picking this up tomorrow for sure and probably enjoying the crap out of it. Seems open world is the standard right now and all games are judged accordingly. I just hope there are truly a few ways to tackle every situation in this game, like multiple entrances.
I'm still going out to pick this up tomorrow. I'm not sure I like the idea of linearity in a Thief game but it still looks really cool and I've always been a bit of a Thief fan. The review was really good and the negatives not enough to dissuade me. A score of 6 is a purchase in my book when I've been anticipating a game. So many to buy but must buy a house this year too so I have to choose wisely...Dark Souls 2 is a buy even if it gets a 1, lol.
