@5SI-GonePostal @Sporkguy3 I agree that it doesn't desensitize much more than film death, though I think that in certain games the fact that we can and are encouraged to be quite brutal adds some more elements though. I also agree with you that it is an unquestionable fact that real life violence is much more horrific than media violence and isn't any sort of root cause of violence acted out. Still, the fact that so many revel in the violence is already evidence enough of a great deal of desensitization that has cheapened such a serious subject.
@GrumpyMcNasty As culture gets worse, we get worse. Laws aren't going to fix the culture, evil intentions will be acted out in other ways. This rests on the parents. There's only one way for the parents to change. Choose Jesus.
@somatzu There's a difference between stories and visuals of gratuitous and pointless violence. Obviously the bill is hypocritical and going after the wrong stuff. Still, for there to be a market for pointless gratuitous violence in games suggests a bloodlust that is unhealthy to our culture.
Very optimistic view on the potential for the industry to do the right thing. Devs and buyers do need to reflect, but I doubt very many will. The culture (video game culture) will continue to allow us to be desensitized to violence and in ways erode the value we place on life.
Hey, I have used a lot of excuses in my life, and a great deal of them weren't true. I suggest that a lot of what you are referring to are lies and ingorance about people's faith in Christ. Psuedo-Christianity. Claiming to follow Jesus but ignoring His words.
The Problem isn't violent video games. I will note they don't help, and I don't think anyone thinking clearly could say that violent video games promote safety and kindness to humanity. The games aren't the problem though, and it is hypocritical to go after violent movies without going after violent movies and TV as well.
The problem is a turning away from faith in the God of the Bible. Find Christ and find peace. Hopelessness and anger and lack of self control lead to this kind of stuff.
2003 may have looked crappier than 2002 (which it actually didn't. graphically there wasn't much of a difference.) I remember 2003 definitely playing better than 2002
