From the land of hobbitses

I got back from a vacation to New Zealand a few weeks ago and have been busy with Thanksgiving and catching up on work ever since. But just wanted to share some pics from the trip:

I found this giant banana in Doubtful Sound and hollowed it out to create a make-shift kayak.

They have this thing called "snow" there. We got to land on some of it.

This is me scolding the sky for being so big.

Some things I learned in New Zealand.

  1. Toilets don't actually flush in the opposite direction.
  2. Not only do you drive on the left side of the road, but the turn signal and windshield wiper controls are swapped.
  3. Always make sure you have your passport when departing for the airport.
  4. Seeing a LOTR filming location is not as cool as seeing it in the movie.
  5. Also, I discovered a really cool Kiwi band.

EDF 2017 sequel announced

Yesss, D3 has announced a sequel to worst game I ever thoroughly enjoyed. And here is me playing the game in my old apartment on a 10-foot wide projection screen.

If you haven't played Earth Defense Force 2017 yet, go pick it up. The game is just not that good...but it's so fun...

BioShock, to infinity and beyond!

Wow, BioShock Infinite looks extremely cool. I was never that enthused about the Rapture underwater aesthetic, but I certianly appreciated it. However, I'm completely sold on a floating steampunk city with robots and old-timey gramophones. I'm especially excited for a some good blimp action. I can't remember the last good blimp scene I played since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The Icecrown gunship battle does not count.

Blimps! (it's a word that is just fun to say)

Cataclysm Beta noms on your hard drive

My goodness Blizzard. We aren't all made of hard drive space. I had to delete Civ 4 (among other things) just to install this monster. They say it requires 14GB of space for installation, but that's not counting the other ~10GB or so for the multiple patches that still need to be installed on top of the client.

Right now I'm thinking the SSD hard drive wasn't worth the extra money I shelled out for it. :(
