StargamerX's Top 10 Games of 2010

With 2010 practically over with, it's been a pretty good year for games. Throughout the year I tried to reduce some Day 1 purchases, just because I was busy playing games I already had. I almost didn't even have 10 games to rank this year until last week! Anyway, before I get onto my list, let me put out a little disclaimer:

NOTE*: I didn't have the time or money to play all of the big games this year, so the following list is just of the games I got in 2010. I don't rent of borrow games, so being able to play 10 games means either I have to buy them or receive them as a gift. So sorry if your favorite game doesn't appear on the list. :)

10. NBA JAM

- Oh how a love a good game of NBA JAM. I've had the arcade port on the SEGA Genesis for a long time, and now that I can play it right on my PS3 is awesome. Now, it's probably just on pure nostalgia that this game makes it on my list, because the original is still superior in my opinion, otherwise this game might have ranked higher.

--

9. ModNation Racers

- A rather spontaneous decision to buy this game was made due to the lack of new games I had at the time. Plus, for some reason, I have a weak spot for racing games. This game was really fun, letting you customize everything about it from your character, kart, to the track you raced on. I mainly downloaded other peoples creations, and some of them were simply amazing. Maybe someday I'll get back in my kart.

8. The Sly Collection

- This game was a no-brainer for me. I loved all of the original games, and to play them in HD, with trophies, all on one disc is great. To top it all off? A teaser trailer for Sly 4! YES!

--

7. Sports Champions

- Playstation Move is a great device. It's very accurate, easy to learn, and just a blast to play with. Sports Champions had a variety of sports to play, my favorites being "Frolf" or Disc Golf, Gladiator Duel, Archery, and Table Tennis. Surprisingly, it's an in-depth game too, sporting four different tournament cups for each sport.

6. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

- I forgot this game even came out in 2010, but it kept me occupied for most of the early months. The single player was fun, but the real action was in the multiplayer, which in my opinion, is better then COD. It's great to play with friends in a squad and destroy the competition, using tactics or just going rambo.

5. Red Dead Redemption

- Well, well. Red Dead Redemption. This year's VGA winner for GOTY. From the time I've played of it, I can tell it's going to be a great game; but that's just it, I haven't had a lot of the time needed to play it. Having played just a few hours, I've ridden miles on horseback, took out several of gangs, and won at a hand of poker. So, to get to the fifth spot just by doing that, I can't wait to finish the game.

--

4. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

- Another racing game, and I couldn't wait to play it. Taking on the role of a cop or a racer is extremely fun in Hot Pursuit. I prefer being a cop so I can bash into racers a la Burnout. The trill of the race heightens if you take it online against other people, where when your the last racer outnumber by cops, your heart rate slowly rises trying to evade last ditch efforts to take you out. It's just an awesome game to pick up and start racing.

3. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Multiplayer)

- Wow. This has to be one of the best multipalyer games I have ever played, it's that fun to play. I haven't dug into the single player, having yet to complete ACII, but the multiplayer alone is enough to be one of the best things I've played all year. Assigned a target you have to be as discreet as possible tracking your target, while watching your back for someone hunting you. The stealthier you are, the more points you get for every kill. The multiplayer keeps me coming back, and I think could stand alone for reduced price at retail. It's that fun.

--

2. Fallout: New Vegas

- I haven't even come close to finishing the game. 30 hours in, I'm not even close. That's why Fallout is so amazing, there is so much to do, there's no possible way you can get to it all. Yet it doesn't matter, because each mission is something unique, even if you've played similar missions before. Your told: Hey, my wife gone missing, can you look into it? Sure, only to find out she's been sold as a slave, and you have the person accountable get their head sniped off. It's the quirkiness of Fallout that makes it so fun to play, you never know what you'll find next, even after playing 100 hours.

-GAME OF THE YEAR 2010-

1. BioShock 2

- [MUSIC]

- BioShock 2 is a fantastic game, but overlooked by many as an unnecessary sequel. Even though it can't beat the original, this sequel is still a great game. The atmosphere, the music, and the story are all top notch, and I loved discovering the secrets of Rapture once more. I find it hard to explain my choices for GOTY, but I think that's because the games speak for themselves. BioShock 2 is an amazing experience, one that shouldn't be missed.

Honorable Mentions: FIFA Soccer 11, Gran Turismo 5

This year I decided to make a list of all the games I wanted to play, but couldn't get to this year. Since the were so many big releases, I don't think it's fair to discount them. So in order of release, here they are:

MAG

Heavy Rain

God of War III

3D Dot Game Heroes

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1

Vanquish

Costume Quest

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

Reminder: Look for my Top 10 Games of 2010 on December 31st!

Update to the Update

Ok, I've been way too busy to compile my wish list here on GameStop, and at this point it wouldn't make much sense to post it. Rather, I'll just post my acquisitions next week, and then my Top 10 Games of 2011 on December 31st.

Update

Okay, 2010 is getting ready to end, so that means I need to start scheming up another Top 10 list for 2010; I just need to remember this year. ;)

Also I'll try to post up my wishlist for the holidays, and then post my impressions of some games.

So look out for that as we head further into December. :)

You're Winner!! *UPDATE*

Well, actually the winner is me. Yesterday I participated in a somewhat contest over on SUBWAY's twitter page and won a copy of Gran Turismo 5 early! I had to be one of the first 75 people to enter and beat out everyone else! Woot!

The ironic thing is, I never had the intention of buying Gran Turismo 5; and now it looks as though I'm getting the game EARLY after years and years of delays! I just thought that was worth noting. :P

*UPDATE* Winner X2! Today I won a $20 SUBWAY gift card!

I've been tagged! So let's get started...

Here are the rules:

1. Put Your iTunes (or other music player) on Shuffle.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. You must write down the name of the song no matter how silly it sounds!
4. Put any comments in brackets after the song name.
5. Tag at least 10 friends.
6. Anyone tagged has to do the same, because fun pointlessness spreads like a virus.

Well, I subscribed to PlayStation PLUS today. I bought the 1-year subscription for $50, which actually gets me 15-months (465-days). For those wondering it includes:

  • Rally Cross (PS1)
  • Age of Zombies (Minis)
  • inFamous (Full Game Trial)
  • Fat Princess Avatars X2
  • Collision PS3 Theme
  • Vaious Discounts & FREE DLC

So already the value adds to $40+ on DAY 1. Still 464 days to go! I started playing Age of Zombies and it is A LOT of fun. Still downloading Wipeout HD and Rally Cross.

Anyone else subscribing to PlayStation PLUS?

I Chose... RAPTURE. -- BioShock Platinum

Well, yesterday I completed Bioshock for a second time, this time on survivor difficulty... without using the vita-chambers. Thus led me to earning my 10th platinum trophy! Yays!

Now I'm finishing up Fallout 3 DLC, then I'll move on to beating Uncharted 2 on crushing, then replaying Bioshock 2 again. Finally, before you know it Super Mario Galaxy 2 will come out on May 23.

Well, that was a quick update. Anyone have any feedback for any other blogs you would like to see?
