I wasn't a massive fan of Shenmue, but the fact Shenmue 3 is being made is great. The fan reactions alone are enough to put a smile on my face.
Its definitely something I can relate to. I completely understand what he means when he says kickstarter is like a "tip jar". Like when Platonic games announced Yooka-Laylee as a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie, I immediately wanted to be a part of its creation. It was like seeing a fond memory, and then hearing "We can do it again." This is turning out to be a great era for video games.
I feel like he didn't play much of MGS5 if he thinks its world is more interesting. Its largely the same thing; A big empty world crafted around the player.
That said, he's absolutely right. One of the main problems i have with recent AC games is that they don't really have a story anymore. The first two games tied together and felt like you were building towards something with Desmond and the Apples of Eden. Like it would culminate in a decisive battle between the Templars and Assassins. Like there was a mystery and you were unraveling it.
But now I don't feel like its working towards anything at all. The entirety of the games take place in the animus, and we just glimpse little easter eggs of a story in the modern time period that they included for seemingly no other reason than because its something Assassin's Creed does. Like I remember one of my biggest complaints about AC4 was at the beginning of the game. They introduce you to this big office building with programmers and advertisements for what you know is the Templars. But then when I tried to explore it, they hounded me about getting into the Animus. I'd be walking around looking at the little figurines or personalized desk, and ever 5 seconds the game would yell at me to get to my desk and go back to Edward because what I wanted to do didn't matter.
The games have more freedom, but at the same time they don't. Its like they've decided what player are supposed to be interested in and any deviation from that is discouraged. Half the games are made up of tutorials for new shit, and half the worlds are locked off from exploration until you've followed the rails the game wants you to stay on.
@UrbanMessiah: That's still bad for business. If they announce an official release date, garner a bunch of pre-orders for guaranteed sales and have midnight launches for the game then they're guaranteed to get more money then just flash-releasing it one day without anyone knowing.
@fbn_games: Its not even close to the "highest hype in game history". Destiny, Duke Nukem: Forever, GTA V, Skyrim, and many other games were more hyped up then No Man's Sky currently is.
I don't know why anyone thought it was going to get a "stealth" release. Releasing a game without any hype is a guaranteed way to shoot your game in the foot. Especially considering they'd be releasing the game with zero guaranteed pre-orders, and alongside two triple A titans like Halo 5 and Assassin's Creed.
Looks exactly the same. I don't see a point in making a video like this for a game where both versions run at the same resolution. I'm sure there are very, very minor improvements in the PS4 version, but this video isn't enough to demonstrate them.
Like I saw a video comparing frame rates, with PS4 maintaining a constant 30 fps while the Xbone dips to like 26 or 27 fps during particularly active segments. Which is not something you'd even notice unless you were monitoring it specifically like the video was. The consoles just aren't old enough for the graphical capabilities of either to have been pushed far enough for a real, discernible visual difference to be made outside of resolution.
